Hero Lore
The Font of Avernus is the source of a family's strength, a crack in primal stones from which vapors of prophetic power have issued for generations. Each newborn of the cavernous House Avernus is bathed in the black mist, and by this baptism they are given an innate connection to the mystic energies of the land. They grow up believing themselves fierce protectors of their lineal traditions, the customs of the realm--but what they really are protecting is the Font itself. And the motives of the mist are unclear.

When the infant Abaddon was bathed in the Font, they say something went awry. In the child's eyes there flared a light of comprehension that startled all present and set the sacerdotes to whispering. He was raised with every expectation of following the path all scions of Avernus took--to train in war, that in times of need he might lead the family's army in defense of the ancestral lands. But Abaddon was always one apart. Where others trained with weapons, he bent himself to meditation in the presence of the mist. He drank deep from the vapors that welled from the Font, learning to blend his spirit with the potency that flowed from far beneath the House; he became a creature of the black mist.

There was bitterness within the House Avernus--elders and young alike accusing him of neglecting his responsibilities. But all such accusations stopped when Abaddon rode into battle, and they saw how the powers of the mist had given him mastery over life and death beyond those of any lord the House had ever known.

Hero Ability Breakdown
Mist ♥♥♥♥ - Single Target magical nuke/ heal
Mist ♥♥♥♥ is a nuke when used on enemies and a heal when used on allies. This ability provides a fair amount of sustain to allies at the cost of Abaddon's health. Often when playing as a support, Tranquil boots can be purchased to allow Mist ♥♥♥♥ to be spammed for no health cost. When Abaddon's ult is active, Mist ♥♥♥♥ can be used to heal Abaddon. The damage Abaddon takes from Mist ♥♥♥♥ is pure damage and can be absorbed by Aphotic Shield. Mist ♥♥♥♥ can be used to deny Abaddon.

Aphotic Sheild - Single Target damage block/ AoE magical nuke
Aphotic Shield is the ability that allows Abaddon to be a laning nightmare. It not only allows Abaddon or an ally to take less damage, but it also deals damage to enemies in an AoE based on the damage amount absorbed. Aphotic Shield acts as a Strong Dispel[dota2.gamepedia.com] removing even hard disables. This ability can allow even the frailest of heroes to charge fearlessly into battle. Aphotic Sheild does not deal damage to invisible units or units hidden by Fog of War[dota2.ghttp].

Curse of Avernus - Single Target Debuff/ AoE buff
A weird passive ability that when applied slows the movement and attack speed of the target while granting bonus movement and attack speed to allies who are also attacking the target who has the debuff. When playing as a core, this ability greatly helps to increase Abaddon's damage and ability to chase. When playing as a support it can still be an effective tool, but a bit less so because you won't want to always be in the front lines. Curse of Avernus works on towers so a value point can often be gotten early, even when supporting. Curse of Avernus also helps Abaddon to trade more effectively in lane.

Borrowed Time - Damage block/ healing
Borrowed Time is an ability that adds a great deal of survivability to Abaddon no matter the position he is playing as. It helps to keep him alive when supporting and stay on the front lines without fear as a core. Though the skill passively activates when Abaddon goes below 400 HP, it can also be manually cast even when Stunned, Hexed or Cannot Act[dota2.ghttp]. With the addition of an Aghanim's Scepter, Borrowed Time becomes a powerful damage reduction spell for Abaddon's allies.
Section One - Abaddon as a Support
Abaddon can be an amazing support due to his amount of low cool down healing and protection spells. Mist ♥♥♥♥ is not only a powerful tool for overall sustain, but it can also provide large amounts of healing in teamfights and skirmishes. Aphotic Shield can protect allies from incoming damage while also purging off debuffs, on top of these two already powerful things, the spell can also dish out mediocre amounts of AoE magic damage.
In-Game Abaddon Support Guide
Recommended Skill Build
I recommend maxing Aphotic Shield first due to it's saving ability. Aphotic Shield offers both AoE magic damage and damage block, making it a dual purpose ability. While Mist ♥♥♥♥ offers similar saving potential early, you won't be able to spam it a lot due to it's HP cost upon use. Mist ♥♥♥♥ is generally maxed second but can be prioritized if you get an early tranquil boots or aether lense. Curse of Avernus should be skipped except for the value point early because as a support Abaddon you generally want to be sitting out of the conflict and keeping your carries healthy which means you won't be frequently able to make full use of the skill. A value point early can be very useful in both taking towers and Roshan.
Itemizing as a Support
Soul Ring/ Tranquil Boots
Tranquil Boots are generally picked up in combination with Soul Ring. This combination provides a lot of self sustain while also allowing you to spam Mist ♥♥♥♥ without worry of losing HP. Tranquil boots can be very nice against heroes with a lot of AoE magic damage such as Zeus.

Arcane Boots/ Urn of Shadows
The combination of Arcane boots and Urn is amazing for sustaining your team with both mana and HP while also boosting your survivability a lot. This duo of items is especially effective when your team is very mana hungry or if you feel it would be beneficial boosting your overall HP.

Town Portal Scroll
Due to Abaddon's amazing ability to save allies, carrying a TP scroll and being aware of the map is largely important to success. Quickly TPing to a tower can be the difference maker between an allie living or dying.

Glimmer Cape
Glimmer Cape is an amazing tool in negating magic damage done to both you and your allies. On top of being a great tool for survivability it can also be a good tool for escaping, as it can be cast without interrupting channeling.

Force Staff
Force Staff is a wonderful tool used not only for yourself, but also for allies. It can be used to push an stunned ally into a safer position or it can be used to catch a swift enemy in a chase. Force staff is an overall great positioning tool and is especially useful in kiting enemy carries and helping your allied carries not to get kited.

Mekanism
Mekanism is one of the most powerful sustaining tools available to Abaddon. It provides a large AoE health and armour bonus upon cast, changing the tide of many early/mid game fights. Mekanism while powerful is often something that you should only buy when you have Arcane Boots, without them you won't really have the mana to effectively use this.

Solar Crest
Solar Crest is a powerful item against physical damage carries forcing them to buy an MKB or have their damage output lower. It also boosts Abaddon's survivability while also boosting the survivability of a target of your choice. Solar Crest proves to not only be a great tool to siege towers with, but to also speed up the taking of Roshan.

Ghost Scepter
Ghost Scepter is most often effective against physical damage carries providing Abaddon with a temporary immunity to Physical damage. Casting Ghost Scepter does not breaking the channeling of a TP scroll.

Vladmir's Offering
Vlad's is a great item not only for team wide sustain, but also for the AoE armour aura that it provides; because of this armour bonus, Vlad's can be an especially useful pick up to boost your team's armour against Physical damage carries.

Lotus Orb
While Lotus orb provides useful armour and regen to Abaddon, the main reason you will find yourself buying this item is to have an additional way of purging debuffs off of allies.

Aghanim's Scepter
Aghanim's Scepter is very much a luxury item for Abaddon granting an astounding %50 damage reduction for all allies in a 900 radius. If you find yourself with lump sum of extra gold or you feel that this is the best way for your team to sustain in fights, consider buying one.
Positive Hero Synergies
Phantom Assassin
Phantom Assassin is a hero who loves to dart in and out of fights, quickly blowing up enemies and then backing out of a fight, getting ready to re-initiate. With the help of Abaddon, PA can much more comfortably stay on the front lines of a fight with less fear of dying. PA is a very squishy hero by nature, but becomes much more survivable with the help of Abaddon. She also makes good use of Curse of Avernus.

Legion Commander
Legion Commander is always in the front lines of fights, dueling and spearing enemies, with the aid of Abaddon's protection, Legion Commander has a lot less fear of losing duels and because of this she can make more risky duels. Since she is always on the front lines of a fight she makes especially good use of Aphotic Shield's damage block and magic damage.

Slardar
Slardar is a hero who due to the damage amplification that Sprint gives is often afraid to spend extended amounts of time in the center of fights. With the help of Abaddon, much of this damage amplification is nullified making for one happy Slardar. Staying in the center of fights Slardar can easily get 3 or more man crushes and happily bash enemies into the ground.

Faceless Void
Faceless Void on his own is already an extremely survivable front liner. His biggest fear however is large amounts of burst damage in fights. Abaddon can easily remedy this fear, granting Void with both a damage block and periodic healing. Faceless Void also makes excellent use of Curse of Avernus.

Axe
Axe and Abaddon is one of my favourite hero combination in all of Dota. Axe is a highly aggressive hero, made almost fearless with the Aid of Abaddon. An agressive offlane duo of Axe and Abaddon means that Axe can very safely creep cut, putting huge amounts of pressure on the enemy tower early, while also netting Axe a lot of farm. When Axe hits multiple hero calls, Abaddon's shield can deal a sizeable amount of AoE damage while also protecting Axe.

Ursa
Ursa is a hero who is extremely susceptible to stuns, slows and large amounts of burst damage. Abaddon can purge off Stuns and Slows from Ursa while also making him more survivable to burst damage. Ursa also makes good use of Curse of Avernus.

Lifestealer
Lifestealer while possessing the Rage ability is still extremely susceptible to being kiting with slows, stuns and force staffs. Abaddon's Aphotic Shield can be used to remedy 2 of these 3 things, helping Lifestealer to more around more freely in fights. Lifestealer makes great use of Curse of Avernus.
Adverse Hero Synergies
- Hard Counters -

Ancient Apparition
Ancient Apparition's ultimate completely nullifies Abaddon's ability to both heal himself and allies, taking away a large strength of the hero. When the Ice Blast debuff is applied on allies or even Abaddon Aphotic Shield can stop the damage ticks, but cannot reliably save allies. Not being able to use Mist ♥♥♥♥ to heal allies in fights makes Abaddon's only useful skill Apothic Shield.

Venomancer
Abaddon is a hero who provides a lot of healing and damage protection over time, but his ability to heal allies becomes lessened quite significantly when Venomancer's poison debuffs are affecting him. Since using Mist ♥♥♥♥ takes HP away from Abaddon, he cannot heal allies without risk of dying when affected by Venomous Gale.

Zeus
Zeus deals massive amounts of AoE magic damage quickly outdoing Abaddon's healing and damage protection. Although Abaddon's ultimate protects him from dying to initial damage burst, he will likely have to back out of a fight or stay much further back when his ultimate is on cooldown making it so he gets far less spells off in a fight.

Spectre
When Spectre uses her ultimate she will not only be able to easily jump onto backliners, but also her illusions will deal huge amounts of damage to Abaddon, likely triggering his ultimate. Since Abaddon will be so damaged, he will likely need to retreat from the fight or stand very far back, making it so heis able to use less spells in a fight.

Faceless Void
If caught in Faceless Void's chrono, Abaddon is very likely to survive, but in this time he is completely disabled and unable to get any of his spells off on allies. Also, Faceless Void's time dilation effectively silences Abaddon, making him unable to use his spells more than once or twice in a fight. Time Dilation is a VERY hard counter to Abaddon and it should not be underestimated.

- Soft Counters -

Storm Spirit
Storm Spirit is notorious for packing a large amount of single target disable (ie. Orchid Malevolence, Scythe of Vyse and Electric Vortex) and with this he can quickly jump onto supports and backliners in fights, making quick work of them. Abaddon can be very quickly disabled by Storm, nullifying his fight presence.

Axe
Axe's Culling Blade does 250/325/400 (or 300/425/550 with Aghanim's Scepter) meaning that he can kill Abaddon before Borrowed Time proc's and even when Borrowed Time has proced. (if Abaddon is at or below the HP threshold of Culling Blade)

Phantom Assassin
Phantom Assassain is notorious for her massive damage crits[dota2.gamepedia.com], because of her ability to hit for so much damage in one hit, she can kill Abaddon before his ultimate actually triggers passively.

Lina
Lina's ultimate Laguna Blade does 450/650/850 damage, whereas Abaddon's Borrowed Time proc's passively at 400 damage. This means that Lina can kill Abaddon before his ultimate even has a chance to passively proc.
Gameplay

- Early Game -

Starting in the Safelane
When playing a safelane support Abaddon, it is very important that you balance your time effectively between stacking[dota2.gamehttp] and pulling[dota2.gamepedia.com] and zoning the offlaner. Be sure to communicate to your carry if you are pulling, so they know to play accordingly. If your safelane is crushing the enemy offlane, I suggest single pulling the creep wave, which will stack it for the 3 minute wave which will always include the first siege creep. With a stacked creep wave and a siege creep, you can very easily do a large deal of damage to the tower. In between stacking, pulling and harassing the offlaner, going to the rune spot every 2 minutes can be very important, for either protecting the rune so your mid laner can grab it, or to steal it away from the enemy.
Starting in the Midlane
Deciding to start off in the mid lane will depend on a few variables. The first variable being if your mid hero actually needs help in their mid matchup. The second variable being will your other lanes suffer as a result of you starting in the mid lane? The third variable being is there an enemy support also starting in the mid lane? So if you've considered these three variables and decide to start in the mid lane, you should be putting your first skill point into either Aphotic Shield or Curse of Avernus. Aphotic Shield will help you to take less damage when harassing the enemy mid, and Curse will help you to deal more damage. You probably shouldn't stick around too long in the mid lane, because keep in mind that while you are helping your mid laner to last hit[dota2.gamehthttp] better, you are also taking their XP. So consider whether it is more valuable for you to be harassing the enemy mid laner, sitting behind your mid laner, stacking for your team or rune controlling.
Starting in the Offlane
When deciding to start in the offlane, you should consider whether starting here will make your other lanes suffer and if the suffering is worth the pressure you will be putting onto the enemy safelane. Abaddon can work very well in a dual offlane scenario due to his hyper aggressive tendencies and the survivability that he can add to a lane. Rune Control is a very important thing to be doing when laning in the offlane. If you feel that you've given your ally offlaner an adequate head start, consider either roaming to other lanes or begin stacking creep camps for your team.

- Mid & Late Game -
During this period of the game it's your job to try and keep your carries safe in fights and while they are farming. This means that you will be sitting behind your carries when they are farming and always carrying a TP scroll so you can quickly respond to ganks and skirmishes. In fights, try to stay as far back as possible. You goal as a support in fights is to get off as many of your spells as possible. You won't have to worry too much about using your defensive spells on yourself, as with the aid of your ultimate you are already fairly survivable.

Section Two - Abaddon as an Offlaner
Though Abaddon can be very effectively played as a support, his adaptable skill builds and versatile item builds can allow him to be played quite effectively as a core as well. Not needing many items to provide game changing spells while also being quite survivable with just his base kit, I believe Abaddon is best played in the offlane when played as a core.
In-Game Offlane Abaddon Guide
Recommended Skill Build
Abaddon's skill builds are highly adaptable, and this is a pretty general skill build for the offlane. This in mind, Aphotic Shield is recommended to be maxed first due to it's damage block and it's magic damage output. This is the ability that allows Abaddon to recklessly charge around on the front lines of a fight. Curse of Avernus is generally maxed second because it increases Abaddon's farm speed, damage output and helps him to effectively chase enemies. Mist ♥♥♥♥ can be an extremely useful sustain tool, but sometimes can be skipped all together for a few levels in stats.
Itemizing as an Offlaner
Orb of Venom
Orb of Venom in combination with Curse of Avernus will allow Abaddon to chase enemies with ease. Buying a casual Orb of Venom in lane will also allow Abaddon to trade more effectively. This can later be built into Eye of Skadi if you feel it fits.

Phase Boots
Phase Boots in combination with Curse of Avernus will allow Abaddon to move very quickly making chasing and escaping a breeze. Abaddon lacks much physical/ right click damage early and Phase boots help to make up for that.

Magic Wand
Magic Wand is an invaluable survivability and sustain tool for Abaddon. It gives a quick burst of health and mana, as well as some nice stats. As a core Abaddon it also allows the user to cast more Aphotic Shields.

Vladmir's Offering
Vlad's is an amazing tool to add to Abaddon's kit. It greatly improves his survivability while also granting a great deal of sustain. Vlad's also greatly helps with taking objectives, the aura is very proves useful when taking towers, Roshan and teamfights.

Radiance
Radiance is a fairly greedy item for an offlane Abaddon, but if you find yourself farming quite quickly after building your Phase/Vlad's Radiance can be a great choice. It greatly increases Abaddon's damage output and forces the enemy team to address him. Radiance is a great buy against physical damage carries.

Mjollnir
Mjollnir not only increases Abaddon's farm speed, but it also grants him a large amount of magic damage output. Abaddon with a Mjollnir buff on him can cause a lot of havoc in teamfights. I suggest Mjollnir as a more reliable option than Radiance.

♥♥♥♥♥ and Yasha
♥♥♥♥♥ and Yasha boosts Abaddon's survivability and ability to chase down enemies. The passive Maim ability can often cripple enemy carries in teamfights slowing not only their attack speed, but also their move speed.

Solar Crest
Solar Crest can be a fantastic buy against Physical damage carries as it grants Abaddon with passive armour and evasion. Solar Crest proves to be both a good offensive and defensive option, increasing team wide damage output and survivability.

Eye of Skadi
Eye of Skadi turns Abaddon into a monster. With this item he becomes extremely tanky and very difficult to bring down. In combination with Curse of Avernus Eye of Skadi makes it very difficult for enemies to escape when being chased down. It also gives Abaddon a lot of extra mana to work with.

Aghanim's Scepter
Aghanim's Scepter greatly improves the survivability of not only Abaddon, but also his team mates. It can be a great purchase if your team if very frail or lacks survivability in fights.

Black King Bar
BKB isn't an item that Abaddon will find himself needing every game, but against enemies with a lot of lockdown it can allow Abaddon to run rampant in fights.
Positive Hero Synergies
Wisp
Wisp is an amazing laning buddy for Abaddon, with the aid of a Wisp Abaddon has ten-fold more mana to work with and becomes extremely hard to kill, the duo can simply run at heroes and right click them to death. With a Wisp at your side Abaddon will always have mana for an Apothic Shield, making him very difficult to lane against.

Dragon Knight
Dragon Knight works very well with Abaddon because the two of them can group up early and push down towers very quickly and safely. In fights, the duo make a very strong frontline packing stuns, slows, healing and a huge amount of survivability. The two should not be laned together, as they both need farm, but early rotations from either of them will almost certainly pay off.

Lich
Lich's Frost armour makes laning against an Abaddon simply a nightmare. Abaddon becomes extremely resistant to physical damage and because of this can very easily dominate most lanes. Lich will also be using his sacrifice ability to deny creeps, meaning the enemy laner(s) will be getting XP starved as well as gold starved.

Drow Ranger
Abaddon creates a very strong frontline, forcing enemies to focus on him, which pulls attention away from Drow, allowing her to more freely and less fearfully dish out damage in fights. If Drow gets jumped on, Abaddon also possess saving tools in Mist ♥♥♥♥ and Aphotic Shield to help save the life of Drow.

Sniper
Sniper is hero that can deal huge amounts of damage in teamfights when left unchecked. Due to the strong frontline that Abaddon creates, Sniper can much more freely deal damage in fights. Abaddon also possess many saving tools in Mist ♥♥♥♥ and Aphotic Shield in case Sniper gets jumped on.

Bounty Hunter
Bounty Hunter and Abaddon probably shouldn't be laned together, but rotations from a Bounty Hunter in the laning phase can very easily net kills. Later into the game, a combination of Track and Curse of Avernus grants a very high team wide movespeed making movement and chasing in fights an ease. Aphotic Shield can also be used to purge dust off of Bounty Hunter.

Zeus
Zeus is notorious for dealing massive AoE magic damage in small skirmishes and fights. Zeus' weakness lies in his inability to escape when heroes jump onto him. Abaddon helps to remedy this by not only possessing many saving abilities, but he also creates a very strong front line helping to draw attention away from Zeus.
Adverse Hero Synergies
- Hard Counters -

Ancient Apparition
Ancient Apparition's ultimate completely nullifies Abaddon's ability to both heal himself and allies, taking away a large strength of the hero. When facing an Ancient Apparition Abaddon becomes a skittish fearful frontliner instead of the fearless frontline nuisance that he regularly is.

Slardar
Slardar provides a lot of AoE lockdown which will often be CC'ing[dota2.gamepedia.com] Abaddon due to him always being in the frontlines of a fight. Slardar's Amplify Damage can also be a massive nuisance to Abaddon. Amp damage can be purged by Aphotic Shield but will likely be quickly re-applied. Amplify Damage takes away a very large amount of Abaddon's survivability.

Faceless Void
Since Abaddon will be always running around in the frontlines of a fight, he is very likely to be caught inside of a Chrono Sphere, or even worse caught by Void's Time Dilation. Time Dilation is an extremely hard counter to Abaddon as in fights he relies largely on his low cool down spells to be useful. Having his spells locked to 1 or 2 uses over the course of an entire fight is hugely detrimental to Abaddon.

TImbersaw
Laning against a TImbersaw is pretty dreadful for Abaddon, due to Timber's Reactive Armour Abaddon's usual method of right clicking for harass goes right out the window. As the game progresses, Timber begins to deal massive bursts of damage, quickly popping Abaddon's ultimate. Once his ultimate is activated, Abaddon isn't safe either, his only hope of living is to TP out at this point. Timber can very easily and quickly chase Abaddon down with the use of Timber Chain, so running away is out of the picture.

Razor
Razor's static link ruins a lot of what a core Abaddon does. Stealing not only Abaddon's damage, but then giving it to Razor. This forces Abaddon to choose whether he wants to lost a large amount of his damage or flee the frontlines until the link is broken. Razor is also not a hero that Abaddon can easily lane against.

Lifestealer
Lifestealer's Rage purges off Curse of Avernus and mitigates damage dealt by Aphotic Shield taking away a significant amount of Abaddon's damage. Lifestealer's Open Wounds debuff can be purged off by Aphotic Shield but before it is purged off it cripples Abaddon due to the slow. Lifestealer is also not a hero who Abaddon can very easily fight 1v1.

- Soft Counters -

Venomancer
Every single spell in Venomancer's tool kit applies a slowing debuff, proving to be a huge annoyance to Abaddon. A core Abaddon is a very unlikely going to die to a Venomancer's DoT[dota2.gamepedia.com] making Venomancer an annoyance to Abaddon, but not too much more.

Spectre
Abaddon and Spectre have a weird sort of hero synergie. During the early - mid game Abaddon crushes Spectre in lane and in early engagements, but as Spectre picks up a few items she begins to become increasingly difficult for a core Abaddon to deal with. When playing against Spectre as Abaddon, you're very much on a timer.

Viper
Viper is fairly tanky and is a hero who can somewhat stand up to Abaddon in the early game. His tool kit of slows also makes kiting Abaddon a fair amount easier, proving to a be an annoyance to Abaddon throughout the game.
Gameplay
- Early Game -
During the early game laning phase it's best that Abaddon abuses his survivability by pressuring the enemy safelane carry, With an early point in Curse of Avernus, he can very favourably trade with both supports and the enemy carry. Try to control the creep equilbrium[dota2.gamepedia.com] as best as possible by blocking, denying, not auto-attacking and by pulling the creep camp closest to the lane into the lane. Abaddon can pretty safely contest early pulls, not only able to sap XP safely, but also even steal some of the creeps away from supports. If the lane proves to be too difficult for you, consider buying an Iron Talon and moving away from the lane and into the jungle. Even when the creep equilibrium isn't close(ish) to your tower and you don't feel safe contesting the enemy carries farm, consider going back behind your tower and farming the creep camp that's near the ancient stack, returning to lane when the creep equilibrium is closer to your tower.

- Mid Game -
The Mid Game is where Abaddon hits his first and biggest power peak. If you've had at least a decent laning phase, you will have levels and your first key item. During this time, it's a good idea to talk with your teammates and convince them to group up and take objectives such as towers and Roshan. Having an early aegis on your mid laner or carry in combination with how tanky and how much sustain Abaddon provides, contesting tower pushes and objectives can be very difficult for the enemy team. During the mid-game I don't recommend you spend too much of this time farming, unless you are very confident in your late game farming in this time can cause you to miss your first major power peak in a game.

During the Mid Game phase, item choices become very crucial. For this reason, there isn't really one set build to follow for the mid game. Item choices such as Radiance, Mjollnir and Solar Crest can be purchased when either you're farming, or need more damage in fights. Items such as Mekanism, Crimson Guard, Pipe of Insight and Heaven's Halberd can be purchased if your team lacks survivability in fights. Item choices are such a key factor to a core Abaddon's success in the mid game, so consider wisely.

- Late & Ultra late game -
During the Late & Ultra late game, one of two things will happen for Abaddon, Either he will begin to fall off slowly as a core, or he will actually hit another power peak. This happening completely relies on your item progression. If you aren't able to keep up your farm and progress in items, you will find yourself slowly becoming less and less useful. Abaddon has many of items that can allow him to have a large game impact, but similar to the Mid Game, choosing items wisely will allow you to have a much greater impact. One of the first items to consider if always going to be Black King Bar. If you haven't already purchased on in the mid game, considering whether or not one would be useful now is a good place to start. Next up is deciding if you need damage, or survivability and building accordingly. Late in the game, Abaddon if he hasn't fallen off too much is a great hero to siege bases with due to his Borrowed Time.
Miscellaneous notes regarding Borrowed Time
  • Interrupts Abaddon's channeling spells upon cast. Does not interrupt channeling spells when passively activated.

  • Disjoints projectiles and applies a strong dispel on Abaddon upon activating, be it manually or passively activated.

  • Borrowed Time can be manually activated even while stunned, cycloned, slept, taunted, hidden, or during Forced Movement.

  • It cannot be manually activated, but can passively activate while silenced, hexed or Cannot Act. It also cannot be shift-queued.

  • Activates automatically when a physical, magical or pure damage instance drops Abaddon's health below 400.

  • The damage instance which passively activates Borrowed Time is not healed back up.This means if the damage instance exceeds Abaddon's current health, he dies without Borrowed Time getting activated. This also means that it does not save Abaddon from instantly killing effects like Culling Blade and Ice Blast.

  • Borrowed Time fully negates damage (after all reductions, causing several on-damage effects to not trigger.

  • Borrowed Time has the highest priority in the group of damage negating spells.
This means when combined with other damage negating effects (e.g. Aphotic Shield or False Promise), Borrowed Time negates the damage while the others do not. For False Promise, this means that Borrowed Time first turns damage into heals, and then it is registered by False Promise as a heal and not as damage.

  • As with all damage manipulating effects, Borrowed Time only negates and heals from the 3 damage types. It does not heal from HP Removal. The only exceptions are Heartstopper Aura and False Promise, which it does heal from. However, it does not passively activate from them.

  • The damage redirection granted by Aghanim's Scepter is not aura-based, so its effects do not linger.

  • The damage reduction for allies stacks multiplicatively with other sources of damage reduction.

  • The damage reduction does not reduce damage for units under any damage negating effect.

He is extremely fun to play. I might try him now with this guide
