F4SE & Manual Updates

Just a quick rundown of the process of installing Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE), and setting Fallout 4 to only update manually so that game updates do not prevent you from playing while using F4SE mods. It's a simple process, but I've seen many threads and comments pop up about this subject after updates. I didn't find an existing guide, so here you go.

This won't help if you already have the most current game update. It's preparation for the next game update so you can continue playing immediately afterward.

Downgrade patches [www.speedrun.com] are available, but they also take time to make.

Don't forget to manually update the game and your mods after F4SE catches up.
You can trigger an update (if one is available) by clicking the PLAY button next to Fallout 4 in your Steam Library.

F4SE Install

Chances are you've already got F4SE installed, and know how to use it. In case not, here is a video guide: (not mine)

Going forward, you will now launch Fallout 4 using f4se_loader.exe instead of the steam client and F4 Launcher.

Set Fallout 4 to Manual* Update

• Open your steam library
  
• Right Click Fallout 4
  
• Click Properties
  
• Click the Updates tab
  
• Click the drop-down menu under 'Automatic updates'
  
• Click 'Only update this game when I launch it'
  
• Close the Fallout 4 - Properties window
  
• Never click the 'PLAY' button for Fallout 4 unless you want to manually update the game

*There is no named 'manual update' setting. What we're doing is telling FO4 to only update when we launch it through the steam library.

Congratulations!

Fallout 4 will no longer update itself automatically.

Necromancing to say this is awesome, thank you.

Even if f4se still sometimes triggers an update dialog, at least I can close it and have the option to investigate if its safe.

Hi i did this but for some reason it still says i cannot get achibvmets but i love that you allowed me to get f4se i use nexus mod manager would that have anyhting to do with it
