Touhou - Hakurei Shrine

Description
Keep the peace in Gensokyo with the power of the Hakurei Shrine! This mod adds Reimu Hakurei from the Touhou series of games to Civ V as the leader of... well, the Hakurei Shrine. Requires BNW.

Unique Ability: Fantasy Nature

Cannot gain settlers nor annex cities. May purchase in puppeted cities. Units gain combat strength as they increase in level and provide Gold when they kill an enemy unit. A Shrine Maiden appears after researching Philosophy. Holy Sites provide an additional 3 Gold.

Unique Unit: Shrine Maiden

The Shrine Maiden is a unique unit for the Hakurei Shrine, replacing the Great General. It ignores terrain costs, and its combat strength is 25% more than the strongest gun or melee unit that can be trained. It provides Faith when it kills an enemy unit. It also has a 33% bonus against ranged attacks, and may accumulate Bomb Spell Cards by adopting the Organized Religion and Reformation policies, and by constructing the Honden. These spell cards are used automatically when the Shrine Maiden begins the turn with 25 HP or less, or is killed by an enemy attack, and heal the Shrine Maiden for 50 HP while dealing 25 HP damage to adjacent enemy units. The Shrine Maiden can build Holy Sites as well as Citadels.

Unique Building: Donation Box

Replaces the Temple. Does not require maintenance, and provides +2 Gold in addition to the 2 Faith that the Temple provides. Provides an additional +1 Gold and points towards Shrine Maidens for each citizen following your majority religion and each Trade Route travelling to the city.

Designer's Notes: So, after creating a number of Touhou civs a couple of years back, I had some requests to make a Reimu civilization... but I ended up struggling with her design for a lengthy period of time. Given that she's often depicted as being somewhat lazy, she seemed the character the least likely to go out and try to establish an empire in Gensokyo, so she felt like a good candidate to make as a "one city challenge" civ, only able to found her capital city and being unwilling to actually annex and manage any cities she captured. However, my original trade-based designs struggled because they were located rather distant from any other civs, and often weren't located along a coastline to encourage sea trade routes. Eventually, I took a break from it for a while to work on other projects, and then eventually retured to take a fresh look at her. Her remote starts actually seemed rather evocative of the Hakurei Shrine in the Touhou games, which is described as being located rather distantly from the major concentrations of humans, resulting in few people visiting as the area was often fraught with dangerous youkai. This lead me to consider a more military-focused civ which would frequently venture out to battle the hordes of barbarians that would appear around the shrine, earning gold and faith for Reimu. I ended up making Reimu's UU be a "hero" type unit, aggressive shrine maidens that could go and battle the barbarians on Reimu's behalf (much like Reimu's predecessor is said to have done). Of course, these Shrine Maidens have ended up being pretty powerful with all of their bonuses... but it's somewhat appropriate for the Hakurei Shrine. X3

Sometimes I also see shrine maidens on non-Reimu civs - in a recent save, Satori (of StarFishy's Touhou civ pack) had one, though I don't know if it was a weird city-state-awarded unit or if it just spawned in directly.

Warning: From what I can tell Reimu may have a compatibility issue with the Suika civ, though it may be the fault of the Suika civ('s coding). After getting the first miko obtained through researching Philosophy, Reimu starts collecting Kishin Chiefs (a unit given to the Oni Clans/Suika civ through a Sukritact event at the cost of denouncing another civ) instead of Shrine Maidens.

i don't know why but for some reason, reimu can build units from far-more advanced eras.
i saw her using combine hunters from the combine citadel mod right before the industrial age

I know it's been years but, how do I make it so that only the set Reimu Peace and War themes play instead of the generic BGM? Usually the Peace and War themes only lasts for one loop :steamsad:

funny thing is that playing with the mod BARB EVO when you use the skill barb takes away from your unit 50 hp it is quite unusual to find such a bug...

So likely a stupid question but is there a seperate music file i need to download like with the Remilia Scarlet mod?

The shrine maiden is a cool idea, but laughably overpowered. I just wish it were balanced and fun enough to use as more than a one-time joke.
