What is the Never Leave Sanctuary Challenge?
Here is a basic video explaining it, or read below!

So the Never Leave Sanctuary Challege is simple, but not easy. The rules are as Followes

1. Once you leave Vault 111, NEVER leave the borders of Sanctuary (or at least the island it sits on)

2. Use supplies gathered by the Sole Survivor in Vault 111, the path going to sanctuary, supplies in Sanctuary and gear Settlers bring into the town

3. VERY IMPORTANT Behind the Blue house to the North East, there is a Cellar in the back facing North. Go just outside it, and Save. Enter the house and search the chest for 2 Crystal, reloading the save if you are not sucessful. A camera, Crystal decantor and Microscope work just fine, but this is the only *canon* way to recieve a recruitment beacon

4. Use your imagination to mold the world around you, bending it to your will

5. Survive for as long as possible!
Where did this Challenge come from?
There was an article written on this in December 2015, and this is the first recorded challenge.

What is there to do in this Challenge? (Goals)
This, my friend, is up to you.

In a way very simular to Minecraft, there is no Clear goal. No quest lines, no one to tell you "Game over". The objective of this Challenge is as clear as your fun in it.

Personally, i like to troll my settlers :D

This is one example of it. I created this cage for one settler that got caught on some terrain. As simple as it might sound, creating this lovely patch of tera forma was very amusing to me, especially the Disco ball hanging off tent fabric gleaming on the nearby sac of human remains.

Delectable.

Gain settlers

Behind the Blue house to the North East, there is a Cellar in the back facing North. Go just outside it, and Save. Enter the house and search the chest for 2 Crystal, reloading the save if you are not sucessful. A camera, Crystal decantor and Microscope work just fine, but this is the only *canon* way to recieve a recruitment beacon.

Use this to spawn a recruitment beacon and populate the settlement

Make sure to put all efforts in a Vendor!

So making a vendor stall is very important in creating a sustaniable Sanctuary. Disregard what the liberal cats say in California, all you need to do to be Self Sufficent and renewable is build a Vendor (preferably clothing vendor, because its 200 caps) and sell Purified Water and Melons to the world!

You will need two things: Local Leader II (level 14, CHR 6+) and 200 Caps

The Experience is the easy part. Just build tons of Structures and sleep often to get the XP buff!

The caps however, do not come without sacrifice

Collecting caps around Sanctuary and Vault 111 rents you between 40-80 caps. Not nearly enought.

The Best way that i see to gain caps is to take it from your settlers that come in. After you reach your limit of settlers, things get creative

Using the Mr. Sandmand Perk (AGI 5+) you can silently murder your settlers, allowing space for the next one to settle. The ends justify the means, even if you sleep in the day and murder at night

Unless you use cheats or console commands, i dont know how you can make the cheddar necesary for the challenge otherwise. More power to you if you can, i prefer to have a murder pit where i store dead bodys
Tips for the Never Leave Sanctuary Challenge
A few tips for the intrepid Mayor/Dictator

Use Your enviroment to your advantage

You can still harvest plants, animals and other goodies as long as they come into your settlement.

Farm XP and caps, and fast

Using your settlers scavenging stations you can have limited sustainability. However, if you can get to Level 14 and collect 200-250 caps, you can gain the ability to start a vendor and sell goods (most notably melons and purified water).

Using this you can build a General Store, and unlimited amounts of ammo, Junk and Clothing!

Build often to farm XP

Building is the best and seemingly only way to farm experience. Using this, make sure to Sleep often to get the extra experience buff!

Include mods!

More mods the merrier! Mods are a great way to make this challenge interesting and giving you a reason to build! What crazy settlements can you make?

Trashcan Carla will only come to Sanctuary after you meet her a little before Drumlin Diner, this challenge means you won't being leaving it to go meet her for the first time.

Great ideal but a few issues with the ideal it'self.

#1: No. That's not the only cannon way to get a recruiting becon. Wait for Trashcan Carla... She comes by every saterday/sunday. (No you don't have to trigger this in any way)
Some people seam to say you do. But I never have a problem getting her to show up.

#2: No end game.
I know the stated goal was to not die.. But is that really such a issue? I can't really see how one would consistently die?

I might use the goal of getting to a level. I would even be ok with a high level like 50 or 100.

Hey I currently do this in survival mode. I like how it goes so far, but did you ever had a settlement attack? I try to provokoe it with much food/water production and zero defense, but it doesn't work. I even have a cage with a raider in it which should make raider attack way more likely.

I gotta try this on a different character right after I'm done pimpin' out the Castle. I'm planning and turning that into some kinda maze filled with angry hostiles and me running through slitting their throats with whatever I can find. :D

+Neometal Nice! The Biggest hurtle is actually getting the shops for more caps and stuff.

Days past by, ppl started to come in, at 6 settlers so far + a cow. Managed to get to lvl 14 in the weekend, had another defend sanctuary mission - this time 8 raiders - had 299 caps by that time, didn't have to kill my own npcs. One of them had a scoped pipe pistol, I has able to alert the 2 mirelurk from their nest, and some mongrels and boatflies from the direction of the Abernathies. I'm even able to see the raiders at the high voltage tower - the closest one to vault 111, but ran out of bullets before killing them.
After building the clothes shop and selling stuff, had enough to buy a bar and a general goods store.
