Update:

Hey I’ve written a science fiction novel called "Janitors of the Late Space Age" inspired by Space Engineers. Summer is here, if you are looking for something to read - get it from Amazon as electronic or paperback edition, it’s cheap:

https://www.amazon.com/Janitors-Late-Space-Age-Engineers-ebook/dp/B072RJKXNX/

--------------

Forget about the drones - ROBOTS ARE THE FUTURE!

In an attempt to colonize a Mars-like planet small, independent robots are tasked with basic survey, prospecting and finally teraforming tasks. This cheap, energy efficient rolling robot is able to look for minerals while also creating a moving antenna network for all future robots.

It will move without your assistance and scout for minerals in your area. Just turn it on and it will roll in a circular route, reporting in all the resources it finds. If you see it close to a resource you need - tell it to stop moving remotely and it will act as a beacon.

Special "rolling" propulsion:

- Energy efficient = longer independent life
- Cannot be flipped
- Can traverse very steep slopes
- Will generaly stay in the area where it is released, moving in 2km circles

In just 12 blocks the Microbot is equiped with:
- ore detector
- antenna
- gyro (that serves as propulsion)
- reactor
- some light armor to help it roll

Special instructions:
- if you are in a very difficult terrain, add more rolling power
- if you need a smaller area surveyed, add more steering power

Amazingly, no scripts or even mods were used. Enjoy, and hopefully this inspires your own rolling robots. Stay tuned for more terraforming robots.

Check out other blueprints from the Robots collection.

UPDATE 1 is here: it features LESS parts, better rolling and steering. The prospector will now stay closer to where it is released. Happy prospecting!

nice bots Parkasever!

also for the old comments below, there are 1x1 small grid batteries, I dont think they'd last as long as a reactor tho

@DEADPOO Aren't batteries bigger than the reactor, meaning that it won't be able to roll as well?
Also the comment is two year old.

Gee, you're playing an Engineer...how hard is it to swap a reactor for batteries? Why can't you do it?

Could you do a version of these using batteries?

can you make a well basicly a "tank"?
with wheels and a gatlin turret

Yeah, it's also equipped with a lighter :D
I'm not a fan of BB8. A true astromech droid like R2D2 hacks the Death Star, repairs damaged X-wings during flight and zapps aliens with a thunderbolt :D
