Elite Dangerous: Insurance Costs
De Niku
Hello everyone to this guide for Elite Dangerous, what you will be reading in this guide is information from the Wiki to help the players choose which ship they want because we all know when we die we have to pay a fee to get that same exact ship back. Enjoy.

Basics
(DISCLAIMER): I have not finished this yet so if you want a ship to be put into this that isn't already in it then feel free to post it in the comment section. I added all the ships! Finally! I will add any new ones that are released in updates so look forward to that.

If you are unlucky enough to die, be killed, hunted down like the dog you are, or just slammed into a space station by a useless docking computer, then you will be given an opportunity to rebuy your ship by paying an 'insurance' cost derived from the ship's purchase cost. The following table shows the approximate purchase and insurance cost for ships and equipment. Also note that the insurance is 5% of the cost of the ship, and all other items.

Upon the destruction of your ship an insurance screen will be displayed giving the option to repurchase your (now destroyed) ship's loadout, or to choose a free Sidewinder (loaned to you from the Pilots Federation). If you do not have enough credits to repurchase your old loadout, you will be given an opportunity to take out loans up to a maximum of 600,000 credits (any unpaid loans the player already has will count toward this maximum). If the player cannot repurchase their old loadout even with loans, they will be forced to choose the Sidewinder, and lose their old ship and its loadout.
Insurance Table
Insurance prices are based upon 5% of the ships purchase price.

* Sidewinders are the starter ship so they are free unless you're purchasing a new one or paying insurance for an old loadout.

[1] Beta backers receive an additional 25% discount on the insurance cost of their ships, which includes the hull and its modules.

[2] Alpha backers receive an additional 50% discount on the insurance cost of their ships, which includes the hull and its modules.

Information is not 100% accurate as different systems charge differing amounts of credits than other systems. I realise that this guide does not contain all the ships (yet) and that is because making this guide takes time to make, whenever I have the free time I will add more and more ships until it is complete.

How To Rank Up

Combat - To increase the combat rank the player must gain points by killing targets, but the points gained for each kill are based on the combat rank of the target relative to your combat rank, i.e if you're Harmless and kill an Elite ship you will obtain a large number of points but if you are Deadly and kill a ship below Expert you will not get any.
Trader - The player can increase their trade rank by selling commodities or by smuggling or by doing missions which involves hauling commodities.
Explorer - The player will gain exploration ranks based on how much money is made by selling cartographic data that you will acquire by exploring and scanning systems.
CQC - By playing and completing in CQC matches on Elite Dangerous: Arena you will gain experience which will increase your player rank while also increasing your CQC rank.

This table of ranks is the result of me being unbearably bored and being too lazy to continue the main purpose of the guide. If you want to know how to obtain these ranks i suggest refering to this[forums.frontier.co.uk] for the time being.

you are right. I realized that the guide was outdated. It appeared in my new posts for some reasons.:steamhappy:

the guide is about nothing.
The major part of insurance cost is not the base ship but modules (if A rated).Insurance is 5% of ALL COST (unless A or B backers but they do not need any guides as played long enough).
the cheaper you buy, the less insurance - as simple as it is.
Always keep your initial ship. It costs almost nothing (modules loaned means you do not get any credits for selling but you do not pay any insurance for them either). The ship comes handy when you need to die many times - for instance, collecting engineering materials in HIP 12099 and trading at E trader. The insurance cost is like 50 credits. I put 2A FSD on it and the insurance is still under 10k.

you can get -15% cost (both ships and modules/weapon) at LEI space (any where LEI - Li-Yong Rui - is controlling faction). Lembava system is the main hub for LEI.
Also -2% for each elite (for instance, for 3 elite you will get -6%) - elite in trading, exploration and combat are not difficult to make. CQC is for ones who like PVP.
only -10% at Jameson memorial but has almost all ships and modules and the system is locked by Elite rank. And I do not want to go to this place after reading Jameson notes at Jameson crash site.

How to decrease the cost further?
You can get -30% cost on weapons if you serve in faction wars (Hudson faction?), -20% for cargo rack (Mahon?)
read the galactic news - there are some temporary discounts (in Dec 2020 was 30% discount for Vulture and Keelback).
-30% for ASP exploration (currently out of stock) and Orca (currently available for 38mln; a hefty 10mln discount) at Irkutsk station in Alioth system (permission required).

On another foot, just simply make more money and do not worry about insurance cost much - 1 hour of deep core mining and you do not care about 5 or 6 mln insurance. You do not need a fancy ship - you can go even with Cobra.

fair enough

just saying that you could have better posted a link to coriolis ( https://coriolis.io/ )and write a guide how to use it (if it isn't easy enough already :) ) the ranks can be found on the wiki here: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Pilots_Federation
Niku  [créateur] 28 mai 2016 à 3h28
Of course people can use Coriolis.io which is obviously better but not everyone knows about that. My guide is simple and easy to access for those new to Elite Dangerous.
0PPR3550R 16 mai 2016 à 6h26
or just use coriolis.io, calculates your total insurrance (custom modules, discounts from Li-Yong Rui for example, ...)
