(edit 7-18-18) Ok people. It's clear that my muse has long given up the ghost for this. As such, I am flat out saying it's not getting updated. This isn't a bad thing, I've seen that other people added their own mods expanding this list, and that it still works with the current expansion. Thank you all for your support, and hopefully I'll get in the spirit to do modding again someday.


You ever notice that so many of your troops from the Random Pool share the same background? Well of course you have, there were only 9 ones included in the core game.
This mod changes that. Oh wow, does it ever change that...


So far I have added 64 new soldier backstories and 5 new ones for both engineer and scientist bio pools. These include the ones from Aug's discontinued mod.
In addition, I now support Configurable Birthdates by thegrimsqueaker72 ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=681764334 ). I strongly recommend that you get this.
There's still a few wrinkles in the code, but it's well done.

My mod is incompatible with any mod that changes the [Engineer X2CharacterTemplate], [Scientist X2CharacterTemplate], or [Soldier X2CharacterTemplate] inside of XComGame.int. Otherwise there should be no compatibility problems at all. If you have any other mod that changes those tables, you can manually input them in using a text editor.

From what I have discovered, you can only see an Engineer or Scientist's backstory when you first hire them from the black market. I am not sure if they are viewable anywhere else. But the changes are there.

If you find any errors, please let me know! If you have any new backgrounds you'd like to see in here, let me know. :) I have threads up on the project page to use, I’m always happy for feedback.

The only reason this mod still exists is that I didn't want to damage anyone's save files.

I did not keep up with the game's lore or settings after dealing with extreme medical issues, and never did get back into the modding community.

By all means, try out the other Backstory mods.

This mod still works though I recommend the other backstory mods, there's much better ones on the workshop now. These backstories are short, uninteresting, and often super out of place.

Questions, are the backstories in this mod the same as the ones in WOTC? just asking becouse im running that one but if so migh run this one also

@The banana box: On non-WotC, I can confirm it still works. Should work mid-campaign on newly generated soldiers.

I LOVE this mod, but some stories are hard to understnad. Maybe you forgot XCOM 2 is TWENTY years after than XCOM: Enemy Within...?

Wow. Sorry about this, I completely forgot about this mod.

I've not gotten the new expansion, but the backgrounds should still load as normal. I'm going to try and catch up on all the posts and questions shortly.

New WOTC mod is up! I have greatly expanded on this excellent mod and now we have 231 total new backstories.

Oh that's cool. In which case yes I would feel comfortable publishing a new mod with so much new content. Might take a few days, I will add you for testing.
