Getting Started
Before we get to modding I just want to show how the Gamecube controller was setup.

Legal advice: I own a physical copy of the game and still posses the manual.
Programs to download
After lurking around the discussion forums I found a thread under this link that explained briefly the basics of control modding:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/339340/discussions/2/451851477871711673/

Very Special thanks to Ksio89 for this.

The redirectional link in the thread for the program in question:
https://github.com/KrossX/Durazno

After accessing the link above, read the "Read-me" and click on the download link.

Once in the Google drive section click this program:

Running Durazno
Once your program is downloaded, open the zip in the folder it's located and run Durazno.exe

Durazno Interface
Once you open the program, you'll have this pop on your screen:
Click on the remap tab

And you'll be prompted with this:

For the closest thing I found for the Gamecube, I used the following changes:

Aim with right trigger (R Button on GC)
Left trigger changes targets (L on GC)
RB opens map (Z on GC)
X hold to run (B on GC)
A (Action / fire while aiming)
Y Inventory (Y on the GC)
B change characters (X on GC)
LB will be the pause game
Start button will change between solo/coop.

Once you finish remapping, close the interface, wait a few seconds and the program will prompt if you want to create a save file, choose yes and it will create an .INI file
Installation
Open the Steam folder wherever you installed it on your computer
Open steamapps
Open common
Open Resident Evil 0
Minimize folder

-/-

Choose both .INI and .dll files

And... drag them on to the main RE0 folder:

Disclaimers and Special Thanks
This guide is made for modding the Type A controller (default).

It worked with me on Windows 10, while the controller was plugged in. I welcome feedback, and hope it works for you. If theres are bugs resulting from this I will not take resposibility, also there's a chance that this may not work for you. Other than that happy gaming.

All legal rights and RE branding belong to Capcom, etc.

Special thanks to:
Ksio89 and 80TCS for helping me find this.

the controller still needs to be physically connected to your PC.. where can i get that

I would aprreciate that. I still haven't been able to start my playthrough because of that awful control scheme. Maybe you could just leave a download link in the post, it would make it easier for someone else with the same issue.

For me when you press (X) on the top right hand it asks if you want to create an .INI. It will ask you if wanna save the presets or something to the effect. At least that is how it went down for me.

In any case I could send you the saved INI preset

I did, it doesn't generate that .ini file once I close the application.
