The Mega Troubleshooting FAQ

*Super IMPORTANT edit*
New fix and patch available, courtesy of rebtd7! This fixes the framepacing and refresh rate, and Controller lookup and some other things not mentioned (check its readme file please). I have not tested it, but others have, and it checks out guys. Please thank the author and NucleoProtein for their pro-bono support for this game!

https://github.com/rebtd7/FF13Fix

Please note: Steam Overlay might cause issues with above fix, please try and disable it first to avoid some crashes.

Also important to disable other overlays, like AMD RAptor and and any others, due to conflicts, thanks to the users who tested this!

  1. Why does the game not launch?
    • Right-click game executable (ffxiii2img.exe) and ensure DEP is turned off.
    • Right-click game executable (ffxiii2img.exe) and 'Run as administrator'.
    • Allow game through antivirus/firewall.
    • Re-install everything from the _common_redistributables folders in the game directory.
    • Verify integrity of the game cache files in Steam.

  2. How to prevent periodic stuttering every 6 seconds?
    • Plug in a wired controller.
      OR
    • Disable all HID Compliant devices in Device Manager.
      OR

  3. How to maximise performance and/or image quality?
      NVIDIA GPU:

    • Apply changes
      AMD/ATI GPU:
    • Get RadeonPro. Drag the game executable to the application window and make a new profile for FFXIII-2.
    • In 'Tweaks', set 'Vsync Control' Always On, 'Triple Buffering' On.
    • In 'Visual' set 'Anisotropic filtering' 16x.
      CPUs:
    • In Control Panel Power Options, Change Advanced plan settings, set 'Processor Power Management' 'Minimum processor state' Setting 100%.
      AMD CPUs
    • Disable Cool 'n Quiet in BIOS.

  4. I am one of the few people who is affected by the microstuttering. What can I do?
    • Enable the framepacer removal fix found here.
    • Framelimit to 30fps or desired fps to prevent quick jumps between 30fps and 60fps.
      NVIDIA:
    • In Nvidia Inspector for FFXIII-2, set 'Frame limiter' 30fps.
      AMD/ATI:
    • In RadeonPro for FFXIII-2 in 'Tweaks', set 'Dynamic Frame Control' On and 'Keep up to' 30fps.

  5. How I can get more FPS?
    • Overclock CPU and/or GPU.
    • Upgrade.

  6. I have non-Microsoft controller issues?
    • Emulate xbox360 controller with 3rd party software like x360ce or another xinput emulator.

  7. I have XBONE controller issues?

  8. How can I stop the buzzing sound?
    • Set to 2 or 6 channels in 'Control Panel' 'Sound' 'Playback devices' 'Configure'.
      OR
    • Set to 2 or 6 channels in your sound card driver software.
      OR
    • Run game executable in Compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service pack 2.

  9. How can I enable SLI?
    • Set 'SLI compatibility bit' in Nvidia Inspector for FFXIII-2 to '0x02402005 (Sanctum, ...)', the same one as FFXIV ARR.

  10. I have an issue not mentioned so far, what do I do?
    • Mention it in this thread, maybe someone can help and if it works, I will add the solution to the FAQ.

Credits go to dB for XBONE controller fix and original framepace removal fixer (Was it you Krisan?) and generally the community for many fixes.

Additional fix for the audio, the fix mentioned above did nothing for me, and even prevented the application from opening unless compatibility view was disabled.

Fix (Windows 10 x64):
Right-click the speaker on your task bar and select "Sounds"
Select the "Playback" tab
Select your defaulted speaker and click "Properties"
Select "Advanced" tab
Under "Signal Enhancements" un-check the box for "enable audio enhancements"

I am using the on-board audio for a B550-E, hopefully this helps others as I did not find this solution anywhere and tried every solution the internet had to offer for this.

My computer claims that ff13-2 REQUIRES DEP, I cannot get the game to work anymore.

I wouldn't recommend removing or disabling all the HID devices as this can make Windows very unstable and even unable to boot.

-Framepacer removal improves framerate
-Game can't stay at 60 (running on i7 1070 32ram) it doesn't matter if is 1080 or 4k I get the same frames on the same places.
-I tried some recommended configurations on nvidia panel that I found on another thread, can't say to what extent they work, I only noticed a difference after framepacer removal.
-Only decent way to play it is at 30fps... at least at 4k is an improvement over the ps3 version.

:(
