Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)
I would highly recommend installing
Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE)[f4se.silverlock.org]& Fallout4.exe Auto-Backup[www.nexusmods.com]
Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE) is required to run most of the mods out there for Fallout 4 so its worth downloading.

*Note: After every Fallout 4 update F4SE will need to be updated and this can take a few days for them to update the code required to fix F4SE. Due to this you wont be able to use F4SE and any mods that require F4SE. This can be fixed by using Fallout4.exe Auto-Backup and switching your updated Fallout4.exe with an older version of the Fallout4.exe thats been backed up.

*Note: Using a mod that requires F4SE and not having F4SE installed can cause your game to crash while loading into the game it self. Also check on the mods page to see if any F4SE plugins are required as some mods now require special F4SE plugins to function properly.

Simpy download and extract the loose files into your Fallout 4 Main folder.

Files to move:
src (folder) CustomControlMap.txt f4se_1_8_7.dll f4se_loader.exe f4se_readme.txt f4se_steam_loader.dll f4se_whatsnew.txt

*Note: "_for_test_only" folder is not required.

Install Directory:
E:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4

Where ever you have steam installed too. use the f4se_loader.exe to launch your Fallout 4.
● Nexus Mod Manager (Old Launcher)
How to Download & Install Mods

0.) Download & Install The Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)[www.nexusmods.com] from the www.nexusmods.com website the program is Safe and Free.
While you are downloading and installing the NMM go to the website and create a free account for later.

(Sign In is required for fast & easy downloads later)

1.) After you have installed Nexus Mod Manager click the shortcut on your desktop to run the program. The first time you run NMM the program will automaticly scan for your games (Dont worry this is safe & normal).
SImply click the "X" for the games you dont own next to the games directory path and click the "Tick" icon next to the games directory for the games you own when it finishes scanning.

*Note: If you wish to speed up this you can alternatively click the "X" on all the games and then browse to the games your self via the "..." browse feature.

2.) After the scan has finished select the game you wish to mod.

3.) Keep NMM open in the background and go to the www.nexusmods.com website and find a mod you wish to download and select the "Download NMM" option this will automaticly start downloading the mod though NMM it self. Make sure you have signed into the website or the "Download (NMM)" will not be displayed.

*Note: Make sure to also download any mod compatibility patches for any mods you may be using. But avoid installing them unless you have problems launching your game with mods enabled. Compatibility patches can cause alot of problems if used with out the mods required.

4.) After you have clicked the "Download NMM". If you go to your NMM that you left running in the background it should show you downloading the mod you selected via the website. Like below
*Note: Keep in mind you may need to click twice on the website for NMM to start downloading your mod.

*Note: That some mods will not have a "Download (NMM)" option! These mods will require you to download manualy via the "Download (Manual)" and then need manualy adding to NMM using the add new mod icon on NMM. Simply click Add new mod on NMM and browse to where you downloaded the mod too, select the file and click ok.

5.) Now you have downloaded the mods you want, Lets get them installed for Fallout 4! First select and hightlight the mod you wish to install from the list of mods and click on the install button on the top left.

While installing your mods you can see what NMM is installing and what mods are in the queue to be installed.

Ones NMM has finished installing your mod and theres no prompts that apear. Then congratulation on modding your first game using the NMM.
● Nexus Mod Manager - Errors & Popups
Some mods you install may come with install options like "Darker Nights" does which will ask you what part of the mod you wish to install. This is where you have to take charge and choose what you want to install. Most of the time the default options should show you what is recommend to install.

Other prompts such as below should give a recommendation on what to do.

However there are some prompts that dont give you any recommendation, like these prompts which you will have to choose between overrighting a file or not.

Most of the time this happens due to two mods using the same files. An example would be: Mod 1 is using the same file as mod 2. This can cause some mods to mess up and not work as intended. If you get this issue make sure to keep a note of this for the future, incase your game doesnt launch or CTD's this could be one of the causes to why. The above prompt you need to choose your self depending on what mod or mods you are installing and have installed. For instance if i have a Texture pack installed and try to install another texture pack ontop it would ask me the above to overright the textures from the first texture pack and i would have to choose yes or no. Theres no easy solution to this prompt but general mod knowledge. Try Overright if the game doesnt work uninstall and try again.

No Vertibird Sound Bug
This bug happens when you finish/skip the Pre-Sanctuary quest line, The game disables the Vertibird audio files for later when the game is ment to re-enable them for your first encounter with the Brotherhood of Steel. However the game some times skips this and never re-enables the audio files.

Vortex has grown a lot since its inception, although there are still things Mod Organizer 2 does better. I prefer the latter simply because it doesn't touch your core install, for the most part; Nexus Mod Manager simply installs them to your game folder, and Vortex has a virtual file system - but still installs them whole cloth when you Deploy your mod setup. MO2 is a lot more stable in those respects, and it's a must if you're handling massive mod files like Horizon or a Tale of Two Wastelands for FNV/FO3.

Valdacil's Item Sorting has been taken over by a new mod author, and has been massively updated: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/33383

There are a slew of compatibility patches, for bringing other mods' items into the sorting categories and whatnot. Just have a look at the Requirements at the top of the mod page, under "Mods requiring this file."
