The People of Chernarus: Players of DayZ
By Face
This guides purpose is to give you an idea of the types of players you will encounter in DayZ. Keep in mind I only have about 70 hours of time spent on this game but in that time I've met enough people to give you a very generic and basic list of players you'll meet in DayZ and a bit of information about them. Enjoy my guide.

1: The Freshspawn

The #1 most common player throughout DayZ, these players are found 99.99% of the time on the coast. Rarely do they venture inland until they have some gear. The freshspawn has nothing but the default gear that a player spawns with. (Which in the current update is a rag and a road flare.) I would still count someone who has found some simple clothing and maybe a common weapon like a knife as a freshspawn so their level of danger could vary, but most of the time is little to players with even the weakest firearms, or who can handle themselves in melee fights. Freshspawns are really not worth wasting bullets or effort to kill, but if they've gathered some cans of food, water, etc. you could rob them at gunpoint, but I think killing a freshspawn is a waste and (while I'm not usually Mr. Morale man) a bit of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ move. As I said before, they don't pose much of a threat face to face, but if one manages to sneak up on you he could knock you out like Mike Tyson if you're not wearing a hard helmet like a Gorka Military helmet or even a skate helmet.

Danger: Low-None
Hostility: Random
Should you avoid?: Doesn't matter
2: The Bandit

The douche of DayZ. These players are here strictly to kill other players. They are found just about everywhere in Chernarus. Some find it easier and funner to kill iller (is that a word?) equipped players for fun, while others like to take a challenge with a big reward by killing better equipped players. These players are 80% of the time equipped with all military gear and have probably spent more time on that character than outside. The remaining 20 percent is decently equipped with something like a Winchester Model 70 but still manage to get mad 420 quick scope kills with it. The military-like ones are (obviously) more commonly found in the north/inland. While the more civilian equipped bandits are on the coast in major cities like Cherno and Elektro. Militarized bandits are less common because obviously it's much harder to get that kind of gear. Once in a while these players will band together and kick ass in a big group. Keep away from these players and you'll be fine. If engaged in a firefight, good luck, and if you manage to kill him, you're getting quite the reward.

Danger: Extremely High
Hostility: Aggressive
Should you avoid?: Keep away at all times
3: The Common Survivor

As the title suggests, this is the average DayZ player who's been on his character for about 2-3 hours. The common survivor is going to vary a LOT from the example picture I found, but most will probably have gear ranging from a Mosin Nagant to an AK-74. They'll have some military and some civilian gear on them. These players can be found anywhere really. Some may want to stay at the coast, while some will venture inland in search of better gear. A rather common player, these players hostility can vary. Some will be a little on edge in fear of losing their things. Others may be downright hostile to the point where they may as well be bandits. But occasionally they'll be a friendly guy just going on his way. If you're feeling lucky you can try to group with these people and go along with them. Sometimes they'll already be with a group of friends. If they're with friends it may be best to avoid or just pass by them.

Overview
Danger: Random
Hostility: Random
Should you avoid?: That's up to you
4: The Hero
(Yeah I realize I used the same picture as the main one)

Probably the rarest player of all time, these players are the bandit killing, survivor helping heroes of Chernarus. They will go out of their way to provide assistance to those in need of food/meds/ammo. Anyone who kills a hero is either A: a bandit, or B: a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ looking for a shortcut to get some good gear. A hero is often on his own, but will occasionally form a group with it's main purpose to kill bandits. They could chose to stay inland helping those who would really need that extra can of food to make it to NW airfield, or a hero might go back to the coast to give freshspawns a head start. If you're in a gunfight the hero might try to help you if he can actually figure out who's the bad guy.

Overview
Danger: You're fine if you're not a bandit
Hostility: Only towards bandits
Should you avoid?: No, if you're in need of help, go out of your way to find this guy, if you're fine on your own you should stay out of his way.
5: Peacekeepers
(Honestly, I never figured out if the UN peackeepers were an actual group or just something players did, all I know is they kick ass in big groups)

These players are somewhat like the hero, but less helpful in a direct way. Peacekeepers kill bandits and any players/groups that oppose them. I've witnessed an entire Peacekeeper assault on Elektro where a bandit sniper team was hiding out once, and all I can say is that I am glad I didn't ♥♥♥♥ with them. Peacekeepers do what their name suggests, and keep the peace. They'll travel in groups of at least 3 and can easily be identified by their light blue UN helmets. They always have militarized gear and are not a simple survivor to kill. They communicate and coordinate with their team in a very official and orderly fashion. Like I said, they don't help players in a direct way such as giving them supplies. They usually tell others to stay out of their way, but either way it's great to have them around for assistance. They can be found everywhere.

Overview
Danger: Extremely High
Hostility: You're fine if you stay out of their way.
Should you avoid?: Stay out of their way.
6: The Doctor/Medic

The Doctor is a player who gathers as much medical supplies as he can, gets paramedic outfit or hospital scrubs, and goes around doing what doctors do. A possible form of a hero, (some may be in a group of bandits and only help other bandits) these players will help others by healing them in whatever type of injury or illness the person might have. These players are rare-ish to find on their own, but can sometimes be found in a group or with a friend. Some players may decide to become a medic/doctor if they aren't the best at killing but want to make themselves useful. There is a really good guide giving you all the necessary information about meds/injures/illnesses here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=297191627

Overview
Danger: Medium-Low (depends if in a group or not)
Hostility: Friendly more often than not
Should you avoid?: If you require healing, try to find one of these players if you can't help yourself.
7: The Paranoid Player
These are basically any player, but extremely paranoid and will try to avoid anyone when they can. I don't really have much else to say about these players. They are usually alone, unless with a friend.

Overview
Danger: Random, they will usually avoid you though
Hostility: Low, unless provoked
Should you avoid?: They're gonna be avoiding you
8: The Hunter
Much like any other survivor, only they will get most of their food from shooting the animals of Chernarus. These players will normally have a sniper rifle and will perch up on a hill, or in some bushes. They will probably be wearing camo, so they're gonna spot you way longer than you spot them. If they really wanted to they can kill you, but they normally just keep to themselves and shoot only animals.

Overview
Danger: Possible medium-high
Hostility: Usually keep to themselves
Should you avoid?: You won't see them anyways
9: The Sniper
Just your generic description here. A player that sits up on a hill, usually overlooking a town or city, using their military sniper rifle. They will shoot anyone they see usually, so basically a version of the bandit. Normally on their own. The only times there's more than one of them is if they have a friend spotting for them.

Overview
Danger: High
Hostility: Will shoot on sight
Should you avoid: If you heard the first shot, duck and cover.
10: Mr. "I've got a target painted on my back, kill me!"
Usually a freshspawn tired of playing the game, these players will sometimes find the most ridiculous outfits they can and run around trying to annoy players or follow them asking to be killed.
They die right away usually.

I'm not doing an overview, I'm tired and finished with this guide, these guys are jackasses, just know that.
Final Stuff
Thanks for reading my guide. I hope you enjoyed these few paragraphs of the players you'll meet in DayZ. I probably left some things out, so feel free to leave suggestions in the comments. Have a good day or night or whatever time of day wherever you are.

I'm the guy that waits for newspawns to attempt to kill my bait friend so I can tie them up and leave them there as punishment for attempted banditry.
