How ability draft game mode really works?
Ability Draft Game Mode is a game mode which each player picks their own skills.(hope u already know that). It's very similar to LOD mode in Dota 1 but the difference is , each player picks skills in 12 hero's skill pool. Everyone must pick in that pool. At the start of the game , it has planning phase of 60seconds and after that every player picks skills in just 5 seconds (how awful is that). In my opinion , picking skills with that time is very hard , you must think what skills you must choose before your time limit ends , and end up having a random ♥♥♥♥ skill. Is that very awful right? That's why I'm teaching you how pick skills wisely.
Picking Phase
First of all , after you accepted the match and you will placed in either radiant or dire team. You are also randomly placed what number in team are you in. Either 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. Since Radiant is the first team , we could say that the 1st player in Radiant will pick skills first , and 5th player in Dire will definitely pick last. So being the 1st skill picker has the advantage of choosing in all skills freely. Another thing is the picking phase has FOUR ROUNDS but in the next round , the picking order is now descending , from last to first , it will make the picking phase fair to all so that 5th player in radiant will pick 1st in next round (hope you get it).
Skill Picking War
Let's get straight to the topic , so we need to pick in a random pool of abilities , you see some good abilities you might want to pick. Unfortunately , some other player who troll and pick your ability supposed to pick and then you end up shouting and getting poor another skills , pretty sad right? That why you want to be smart enough picking abilities. Here are some tips to follow:
  • Since you will have random hero at start , think first of what role you play. For example , if you are Intelligence hero , you are a very good spell-caster type , so you might want to pick active nuke abilities.
  • Plan your skill picks very quick. This is necessary because planning phase time are very short, so you will need fast thinking. This will require a lot of experience
  • Pick the abilities first you need before someone else picks it. For example , you got Troll as your hero and Phantoms Assassin's Critical is in ability pool , so you may want to pick it but other player is also a hitter type so they might want to pick that too. If you're lucky and turns to pick first , go pick that ability.
  • There are also abilities that is mostly pick by player even if they got no idea what strategy they are making. Example abilities are:

Things you should consider before picking skills
Your Hero
In ability draft , random hero is given to you. So it is so hard in the case that Wisp is the hero you end up playing. You must think what role are you playing by looking at their base stats and some specific capabilities like attack speed and movement speed and base mana pool.

Heroes of the rest of the team
You must also consider the durability and capability of the rest of the team. In that phase , you can predict what role they might be playing. For example, Bloodseeker , PA , Jugg and Lycan is the hero of your teammates. You can predict that they might be play hitter type,
