[OBSOLETE] GNU/Linux Installation of Machinarium

English:

GNU/Linux version of Machinarium is out for a long time but for an unknown reason it has never been released on Steam. You can purchase Linux version of the game alongside with Windows and OS X versions on Humble Store and Desura. But if you already got it on Steam and willing to play in on Linux, this guide will show the native installation and gameplay of the Steam version of the game. This installation does not require or use Wine.

Machinarium'un GNU/Linux sürümü uzun süre önce yayınlamasına karşın bilinmeyen bir sebepten ötürü henüz Steam'e gelmemiştir. Humble Store ve Desura'da oyunun Linux sürümünü Windows ve OS X sürümleri ile birlikte satın alabilirsiniz. Ama oyunu halihazırsa Steam'den edinmişseniz ve Linux'ta oynamak istiyorsanız bu rehber oyunun Steam sürümünün native (yerel) kurulumunu ve oynanışını gösterecektir. Bu kurulum Wine gerektirmemekte ve kullanmamaktadır.

Abstract / Özet

What we will do is basically retrive the game files via SteamCMD (Valve's official command-line tool) and apply retail Linux patches to have game's Linux executable. The guide is based on the Steam Console Client guide on Reddit and my retail Machinarium installation for Linux guide on Amanita Design forums.

Installation / Kurulum

1. First, open terminal and start with SteamCMD installation. We will create a folder for SteamCMD and the game in Home directory.

   mkdir ~/SteamCMD
   cd SteamCMD

2. Now, run SteamCMD and download game files.

   login <your steam account login name>
   force_install_dir machinarium
   @sSteamCmdForcePlatformType windows

3. When you receive "Success! App '40700' fully installed." message, you may close the tool by entering exit command.

Apply Retail Linux Patch / Linux Yamasının Uygulanması

1. Extract Machinarium_patch01_en.tar.gz and Machinarium_patch02_linuxmac.zip.

   Machinarium_patch01_en.tar.gz ve Machinarium_patch02_linuxmac.zip dosyalarının içeriğini çıkarın.
   
   
2. Copy 00, 10 folders and Machinarium executible from Patch 01 to ~/SteamCMD/machinarium; merge and overwrite if asked.

   Yama 01'den 00, 10 klasörlerini ve Machinarium dosyasını ~/SteamCMD/machinarium dizinine kopyalayın; uyarı gelirse birleştirin ve üzerine yazın.
   
   
3. Copy 00 folder from Patch 02 to ~/SteamCMD/machinarium; merge and overwrite if asked.

Result / Sonuç

Your game is ready! You can start the game double clicking Machinarium executible in ~/SteamCMD/machinarium folder. You may need to disable "hardware acceleration" of Flash Player in the game.

Well... If that was a written lengthy full walkthrough, you would be right. But that is fairly short installation guide in two languages. I guess it is fine for what it is. Thanks for caring anyway. :-)

Yeah, I confirm that following path is the save file location on Linux.
