Report a translation problem
When story NPC companions join the party for the first time, they receive the same XP than the Watcher. So, if staying at level 1-2 when getting the first companions, they will need to gain more XP later.
For every missing companion, one receives +10% XP. So, if completing a first few quests alone or with only few companions, you can gain more XP at the beginning and have new companions join with more XP when you meet them for the first time:
