Complete guide: How to find a tent + facts (OUTDATED IN 0.54)

This guide will probably help you in any way to find either a camping tent or a military tent.

The tents

The tents are used to store any item in DayZ such as backpacks, weapons, clothes , tools and other useful stuff. The camping tent can almost be pitched anywhere on the map, except for in a couple of buildings. In difference from the camping tent, the military tent can't be placed if the terrain is too steep. You need to place it on a flat terrain. And once deployed, they offer a massive amounts of storage. However, be aware of placing the tents on a persistance off server. You need to place the tents on a persistance on server in order to save your tent on a server restart. Also be aware of the maintence breaks on wednesdays, usually a 3 hour break at 08:00 (GMT + 01:00). After the break, the public hives' servers will be reset (the loot, tents, trucks etc.). Note that the maintence break will not affect the servers with private hives'.







The camping tent is the smaller one of the two types of tents. It has 63 item slots (7x9) and can be rolled up and put in a backpack. However, the tent is very tall (2x6) so it will only fit in hunting backpacks, drybags and mountain backpacks. You can also carry the tent in your hands on your way through Chernarus.










The big military tent is the larger one. It has 252 slots (7x36), but only 100 are accessible via the interface. The only way to carry the tent with you is to have it on your back instead of a backpack.

Where to find them?

The only place to find the camping tents are in the tenement buildings[dayz.gamepedia.com] also known as the apartment buildings. These building can be found here:


You can also find a couple of these buildings in Berezino (Lumber mill), Novodmitrovsk and Severograd.

Although there are many places to look for the camping tent, I'd prefer to look for them in Dubky [dayz.gamepedia.com]



However, the large military tent can be found at two places, one type of building (Officer's tent[dayz.gamepedia.com]), and at heli crash sites. The buildings are placed on three places around the map. You can find two of them in the north west airfield [dayz.gamepedia.com] and the third one at the military camp[dayz.gamepedia.com] at the west part of the map, near Myshkino.

Recently, they added a new spawnpoint for the military tents. They can now be found at heli crash sites [dayz.gamepedia.com]. So far they are only confirmed to spawn at the UH-1Y-Venom crashes.

How to find them?

It's quite simple to find both of the tents, I'd say it takes more time to find the camping tent than the military tent. It's a longer way though to travel if you want to find a large military tent. With my experience and within the video, it takes around 15 minutes to find two camping tents. Here's a video that shows the steps how to find one.

Now you are probably wondering how to find a military tent. It's simple, just jump from server to server in one of the officer's tents[dayz.gamepedia.com]. Well it's much easier to find one at the north west airfield therefore there are two officer's tents there and one at Myshkino military camp. If you're server hopping, do this at your own risk due you can get a character reset within all the bugs and desync when joining a public hive server.

they didnt... god dangit i have a mil tent with an ak74 sitting in the 152 slots that are unaccessable

Yeah, you can find those tents pretty much everywhere now in 0.55. Even in outhouses, so that's why it got outdated. I still think tho that the central economy loot system is messed up so it will change in the future.

@DeathAngel, sorry I can't help you then. I don't even know with 0.55. Everything is broken..

@Wootex - These haven't been the cases. None of my tests have happened over maintenance. I've read of that issue as well. Supposively the servers I'm on have persistance enabled...and it seems so. I've dropped items right before the server restart and seen those same items available immediately after restart.

I've heard there might be a file that the administrator might have to update?

@Gator, guess the guide is outdated then. I think personally dayz is broken right now so I'll skip edit the guide and edit it in the future. A lot of things are messed up right now in DayZ.

@DeathAngle, the only thing you could do wrong is to place it on a non-persistance server. You might have placed the tent on a persistance server but on a thursday. And when you go play again on wednesday, it's gone because of the maintaince break.
