How to play Techies: Standard Carry build (Outdated)
By Haigfish
This guide will show you how to play Techies, and if your team is missing a carry you can be your teams carry! (The carry part is kind of a joke, but it does work sometimes)

This guide was made early 2015 and is quite outdated.

Intro
Techies is a really fun hero that can get kills from the other side of the map and is one of the best turtle heroes. If you are reading this guide I am assuming you know techies moves so I won't be explaning those. I hope you enjoy this guide!

Why people love carry techies
If you happen to play carry techies be ready for some hate. Most people don't understand what makes techies a decent carry. 700 RANGE! Here is a picture where I just purchaced a divine rapier, my team was not happy.

Mine placement
What is the best place to put mines that has the best chance of giving you an early kill? It depends of the enemies you are facing, for example if the enemy team has an ursa putting mines in roshan's pit early on is a good idea. If the enemy team has a pudge placing red bombs on the runes will ruin his day.

Here is the dota 2 map with dots showing good spots to place mines. (Made by me)

Red: Land mines

Yellow: Remote mines

Purple: Statis Trap

If you are playing on Dire placing the mines on the Radiant side gives you a better chance of getting a kill. If you are on Radiant placing mines on the Dire side of the map gives you a better chance.

Notes: Remote mines give decent vision (700) meaning you can use them as free wards!
Techies the Turtle King
As I said before one of the best things about techies is his ability to turtle and by time for his carry to farm up. Doing this is only really good in the later stages of the game when the enemy is pushing in groups going for your rax or tier 3 towers.

So how do you do it? All you have to do is place 5-50 Green bombs in front of or around the tower you want to defend, back off wait for the enemy team to attack it and then blow them all up.

Using this strategy I won a game where the enemy team was fed but whenever they pushed they would be destroyed by 20 green bombs, after this happened 3 times we were able to end the game even when the enemy had a gold and xp advantage.

In this picture I have 28 kills and it would have been an ultra kill but their SB had aegis. They were dumb and never purchased wards/gem but this can happen in a lot of games!
Item build
Techies is not that item dependant, but is almost always starved for mana.

Starting Items:
TP Scroll (100) Clarity x6 (300) Tango (125)
(525 gold)

As soon as you spawn by your items tp to your tier one tower and try to place 3 red bombs before the game starts. I place my 3 mines on one of the rune spots, back off, wait for an enemy to go for it, get first blood then go and take the rune if my team does not need it. (you need 3 bombs to get first blood)

Early game:
Soul Ring (800) Arcane Boots (1450)
(2250 gold)

Soul ring with arcane boots gives you enough mana to keep placing bombs.

Mid game:
Eul's Scepter (2750)
(2750 gold)

This item is great for techies, it gives him more movement, great mana regen, and a nice active that you can use to disable an enemy or save yourself. In addition you can put an enemy in the air then place bombs under him.

Late game:
Aghanim's Scepter (4200) Bloodstone (4900)
(9100 gold)

Aghanim's make techies' ultimate even better (more damage) and Bloodstone gives him al the mana regen he needs, you already have soul ring and energy booster in your arcane boots so it does not cost that much gold to finish.

Situational:
Ghost Scepter (1600) Force staff (2250) Divine Rapier (6200)

Ghost scepter is ok if they are killing you with right clicks. Force staff is good for pushing the enemy into your bombs, very good pickup. Divine Rapier, +300 damage.. need I say more?

Carry build:
Daedalus (5550) Eye of Skadi (5675) Sange and Yasha (4100)
(15000+ gold)

With these 3 items you pack a punch, a 35% slow from 700 range away is huge and you should be able to pick people off with right clicks if you are farmed enough. S&Y helps your move speed even more and gives you another slow.

Abililty build
So how do you level techies? Land mines is always your first priority, remote mines should be leveled at 6, 11, and 16. So do you level Suicide attack or statis trap first?

Here is what I do:

1: LM
2: SSA
3: LM
4: SSA
5: LM
6: RM
7: LM
8: SSA
9: SSA
10: ST
11: RM
12: ST
13: ST
14: ST
15: Stats
16: RM
17+: Stats

LM: Land mines
SSA: Suicide squad attack
ST: Statis trap
RM: Remote mines
Stats: Stats

you could swap SSA for ST if you don't like the idea of suiciding. But always get 1 level of SSA because it lets you deny yourself.

Friends & Foes
FRIENDS:

Keeper of the light, Crystal Maiden (mana) Tiny (SSA initiation via throw) Magnus (Skewer into bombs) Vengeful Spirit (swap into bombs) Dark Seer (Vacuum into bombs) or anyone that moves the enemy.

FOES

Silencer, Drow ranger (Silence) Omni Knight, Dazzle (invincible for duration) Rubick (you don't want the enemy to have land mines/remote mines) Lycan, Nature's Prophet, Broodmother (people with summoned stuff, they can blow up your mines) Templar assassin (refraction)

@Firelord Obama
If you want to be an easy carry, play sniper. Techies can be a decent carry and his high range helps

sniper imediatly beats out techies w range, lina has great range to but can actually be in fights with her spells and passive, and techies is easily killed and countered

It is an AMAZING item but I don't think it is a core.
