So, you want to play Bane?
By Postal Dude of Cykaland
From the desolate nightmare of Nictasha came the unstoppable force that has been feared since the dawn of time itself. The creature is not only feared by enemies, but by allies as well. This codex is for followers of this nightmare to instead have his allies praise him.

From the black womb, I have been born.
One night, a godess started having dark dreams. These dreams always focused on a floating, four legged creature. The creature always called out her name and showed horrific visions. One of these dreams ended with the creature smiling at her as it lunged at her. She woke up and noticed she was bleeding and at the end of her bed, was the creature. It spoke one word before finishing her off.

"Atropos"

Now, Atropos travels the lands, giving nightmares to all he comes across. For allies, he only works with them until the deed is done. He refrains from giving them the eternal nightmare until their goal is met, for false sense of security. There are times where Bane and his allies forget about his powers and screw it up for all of them. Below is the codex of the dark creature of nightmares, and what his powers can do.

Read with care.
The BANE-ful ways Atropos tortures his enemies.
Atropos has some very destructive powers in his arsenal, allowing him to be a great ganker or just a support. His powers can screw up the enemy in many ways, but can also screw up the allies of this creature. So, what are his powers?

ENFEEBLE: Got any annoying people with high physical damage? Fear not! Enfeeble can reduce the enemy attack damage by a whole lot, a whole 120 damage reduction at level 4. Hope Phantom Assasin didn't rely on those crits too much... heh...

BRAIN SAP: Possibly one of the most annoying powers in the arsenal of Atropos. This spell damages the enemy with 300 pure damage (So it does not get reduced by anything) and Atropos gets healed by this as well. Hence why the recommendation of an item later...

NIGHTMARE Atropos' bread and butter. This spell... can disrupt entire plans. Cast it on an enemy and watch them get stunned for at least 7 whole seconds unless someone attacks them. Nightmare is great for setting up ganks in your lane, since the spells don't inflict the effect on allies. Oh, did I forget to mention if you right click someone in nightmare, it gets transfered to you? Yeah. So another strat involves putting it on yourself so you can escape if an enemy keeps right clicking you. This is also a deny tool, allowing for the enemy to get no gold off the kill. Bane can also get the nightmare on himself and break out of it, thus saving the ally from seven seconds of torture.

FIENDS GRIP: One of the most devestating spells ever. This spell locks an enemy in place, does damage over time and drains mana at the same time. For hilarity, the Aghs upgrade makes it so that anyone attacks Atropos while he is channeling, they will be dealt the current level of nightmare. Plus, it goes through magic immunity (The disable, not the damage)

That is his power. Now, onto some builds that truly scare the enemy away:

STARTING ITEMS: Courier, 2x Iron branches, 1x Tango stack, 1x Ring of health

What you do here is up to you, there are two paths I like to go: Ganker Atropos and Support Attropos.

EARLY GAME SUPPORT: Ring of Bassilus, Brown boots.

EARLY GAME GANKER: Brown boots, Soul ring*, Ring of bassilus
*Use in conjunction with your Brain sap for full effect.

CORE SUPPORT: Mekanism, Pipe of insight, Mana boots, Force staff.

CORE GANKER: Mana boots, Blink dagger, Necromonicon 1, Rod of atos

SITUATIONAL SUPPORT: Aghanim's, Sheeva's, BKB, Ghost sceptre, Necro 2/3

SITUATIONAL GANKER: Aghhanim's, Scythe of Vyse, Bloodstone, BKB, Linkens, Necro 2/3
Some truly nightmarish things to do...
This section is dedicated to some of the... brain-farts that the living nightmare makes.

NIGHTMARING ALLIES WHEN THEY HAVE PUDGE/MIRRANA: You may be denying an ally, but if they have anyone with a skill shot, you just made their life a whole lot easier and your ally's life... much harder.

NIGHTMARING THE MAIN TARGET OF THE FIGHT: Nightmare should be used at the start or end of the fight, not in the middle of it. Why? Decreases the chance of allies getting nightmared.

BRAIN SAPPING TO KILL STEAL: Unless you are:
A) Ganker Bane
B) Low on health
Never use your brain sap to kill an opponent that your allies have direct sight of.

USING ENFEEBLE ON EVERYONE ON THE ENEMY TEAM: If you do this, come close, I have something to tell you... Not everyone relies on right click damage...

NOT KNOWING YOU CAN BREAK YOURSELF OUT OF NIGHTMARE: Just click the nightmare hotkey again to break out of it. Please, don't be stuned for 7 seconds...
LET THE NIGHTMARE BEGIN!
So I hope this codex has beter armed you when there is the Bane elemental about. Be sure to remember that Bane is really good mid game but can fall off quite a bit late game if he is not prepared (I.E. Get Aghs and Necromonicon 2/3). Now go out and enfeeble that carry, brain sap that guy that went off alone, nightmare so you can start pwning everyone and Fiend Grip your way to victory.

Sweet dreams...

Fiend's Grip disables through spell immunity but does not deal damage. Also the damage type is Magical and not Pure.
