Gunman Chronicles & Half-Life Steam

This guide will teach you how to play Gunman Chronicles on the Steam version of Half-Life.

What is Gunman Chronicles?

Quote from Wikipedia :

Gunman Chronicles or Half-Life: Gunman (previously Gunman: TC and simply Gunman) is a first-person shooter space western video game originally created as a mod by the now defunct Rewolf Software. Gunman Chronicles was originally a Quake deathmatch mod named Gunmanship 101, then it was moved to Quake II's engine before becoming a Half-Life mod. At the Half-Life Mod Expo in 1999, Gunman Chronicles stole the show and Sierra approached Rewolf to make a retail version. After significant work, Rewolf was given some office space, funding and a mapper (Jeff Lane) by Valve Software to help complete the project. It was released as a standalone game. Plans were drawn to release Gunman Chronicles on Gamecube, but for reasons unknown, any such plans were cancelled.

Requirements

Before going any further, make sure you have the following :

• Half-Life.
  
• A LEGIT (NON-PIRATED) retail copy of Gunman Chronicles.

UPDATE : I saw people requesting link(s) to download Gunman Chronicles (the whole game or the original CD) in the comments. Those kind of comments will be DELETED WITHOUT NOTIFICATION, same rule applies for those who post a link to download it. Piracy is bad and Gunman Chronicles is NOT considered as an "abandonware" yet. I made a quick search on Google Shopping and I found it for 1 euro, even less.

Installing

1) Insert the Gunman Chronicles's CD in your computer.
2) Install Gunman Chronicles as normal, make sure that you make a FULL installation and install it some place where you can access it easily (C:\Gunman for instance). Do not install DirectX and don't start the game.
3) After the installation, go into the Gunman Chronicles's installation folder (C:\Gunman in my example), right-click on the "rewolf" folder and click on "Copy".
4) Now go to your Half-Life directory, by default it's : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Half-Life".
5) Paste the "rewolf" folder(s) here.
6) For non-english version of Gunman Chronicles, repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 with the "rewolf_lang" folder where "lang" is the game's language. For french versions, it should be "rewolf_french", for russian, it should be "rewolf_russian"...
7) Download the "Gunman to Steam patch" by Revenant100 on ModDB : here.
8) Extract the downloaded archive inside the "rewolf" folder, say "Yes to all" if you are prompted to overwrite files.
9) Run the "wonfiles_cleanup.bat" batch script to remove 200 Mb of useless files.
10) Uninstall Gunman Chronicles (C:\Gunman\UNWISE.exe).
11) Restart Steam.
12) You should see "Gunman Chronicles" in your games list, if not, you made something wrong.

Known issues

• The "hl.exe" process may freeze after playng for a long time, make sure to save often.
  
• Saves made with "WON/Retail" versions aren't compatible with the Steam patch due to engine differences.

@dumbass : the ModDB build linked in the guide you provided was uploaded 7 months AFTER this guide was made.

Likewise, nobody told me of the existance of said build. Thanks to you, that's no longer the case.

Maybe I'll update this guide when I have some time to spare or not. Maybe I'll delete it to let the other one take it's place.

you can just install the steam version (which also works on retail) on moddb FOR FREE, and if you download one addon you also get demo levels, and it IS considered an abandonware (it's even on abandonware websites), and most of people say to download mod version so don't force people to download the steam patch when they don't need to.

When I try to launch the launch screen opens correctly but when I click on start new game nothing happens. Is there a way to fix this?
