Introduction to R&D History：
The Dongfeng11 (DF 11) electric transmission diesel locomotive, designed and manufactured by Qishuyan Locomotive Works in 1992, represents an upgraded iteration of the DF8 diesel locomotive and a continuation of the DF9 series. With a total production of 459 units, this locomotive was developed under the same national imperative as its DF9 predecessor - addressing severe passenger transportation pressures caused by regional development imbalances.In 1990, key governmental bodies including the Ministry of Railways, State Planning Commission, State Science and Technology Commission, and Guangdong Provincial Committee convened a critical demonstration meeting in Guangzhou regarding 160 km/h passenger train operations.
This prompted Qishuyan to further refine the DF9 platform, ultimately achieving operational speeds exceeding 160 km/h for high-speed testing on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen trunk line.
Notably, the DF11 became China's fifth documented high-speed diesel locomotive type, succeeding:
1967 NY5 (160 km/h)
1969 DFH4 SFJ4 (173 km/h)
1974 DFH4 QSJ3 (160 km/h)
1992 DF9 (163 km/h).
1994 DF11(183 km/h)
Following successful development, the locomotive formally entered mass production in 1992.
