Description
Note: If you see a bug I'm sorry. I will fix soon. Should mostly work well.
Note for people who have subbed before: Detachment also slowly decreases from having comfort over 0.7 now

Rimworld is a captivating game because it's the framework for good stories. It generates meaningful, memorable moments around which players can create their own stories. What is lacking in the game, and the mods, is the dimension of a higher order. The element integral to many good stories is something beyond the purely materialistic, physiological, psychological, and ideological conception of reality, beyond physical facts. Wise old man. Stoic warrior. Holy man. Even Archotechs are only constructed, and bound within the physical order, and is not related to what is eternal. It doesn't transcend reality; It's just an unusually powerful inhabitant of it.

There is no magic, no transcending reality and turning into a god. It is intentional.

I don't expect many people to care about this, because this mod doesn't add hot anime girls, badass weapons, magical effects, or hyper-realism. It just needs to be made, because there's no other mods.

New Mechanics
  1. Detachment
How detached this person is from worldly concerns, their spiritual connection with a higher order, their discipline, and will to attain a goal without regard to discomfort. People with a high sense of detachment tend to be less distressed by negative emotions, but also less elated by positive ones. They're able to bear more physical pain than the average person. It can be cultivated by meditating, creating art, solitary relaxation, and reading esoteric literature. Indulging in pleasurable food, recreational drugs, physical love, and abundance of comfort injures this higher connection. Often, even with constant dedication, it takes years for somebody to become a master.
  2. Wisdom
How much life experience and practical knowledge this person has accumulated. Wisdom mainly comes naturally with age, but reading novels also give small amounts of wisdom. Wisdom affects social impact. Young people are usually unwise and have a social impact penalty.

Detachment
The ethos of warrior classes, monastic monks, and mystics.

Detachment is a new stat that every human pawn will have. It increases so slowly, that it will take years for someone to become a master. Good for flesh purity ideologies. Detachment is gained when a pawn
  1. Meditates (with or without Royalty dlc meditation locations)
  2. Creates Art at art bench
  3. Solitary Relaxation
  4. Read Esoteric Literature (A new book type)
Detachment is lost when a pawn
  1. Too comfortable -- having comfort greater than 0.7 will slowly decrease detachment.
  2. Eats Pleasureable Food -- any food that grants a mood buff, like fine meals.
  3. Intakes Non-Medical Drugs
  4. Lovin'
It's hard to increase detachment significantly unless you're trying to. Most pawns will have their detachment stay pretty low just from being comfortable, occasional drug use, or eating food.

Detachment will have no effects until it reaches 30%, at which point a new Gizmo will appear for the pawn:

  1. The first bar shows the pain reduced by detachment. When detachment is at 100%, 50% of pain will be reduced.
  2. The second bar shows mood dulling effect. Detached pawns are less swayed by pains and pleasures, and will remain in a state of calm. At 100% detachment, all mood effects will become 0.

As a pawn becomes more Detached, it will become harder and harder for them to gain more detachment, and easier to lose it.

Esoteric Literature
A new book item that will increase detachment and intellectual skill. These can be from philosophical treatises, to the manuscripts of ancient mystics. Can be obtained from any traders that sells books.

Backstory and Ideology Precept
A new ideology precept that increases detachment gain. Can be added to any ideology with no meme requirements.

Some backstories also have an initial Detachment boost.

Wisdom
A relatively simple stat compared to detachment. Higher wisdom gives a boost to social impact. The most social impact wisdom can give is +20%.

As pawns age, their wisdom will increase slightly. However, a pawn at age 0 will have -1.0 wisdom, and will now suffer a social impact penalty from their negative wisdom. Their wisdom will slowly rise until at age 30, wisdom is no longer negative, and is now 0. From then on, wisdom will increase at a rate of 1.0 wisdom point per 20 years. Max wisdom (5.0) will be obtained at age 130. Each 1.0 point of wisdom gives +4% social impact. This gives old and disabled pawns a believable and meaningful benefit.

Reading Novels will now also increase wisdom, although at a very slow rate.

Note: Unfortunately, ageless pawns do not gain wisdom as they age (I did not want to implement because the game doesn't track their years of lived experience, and I would have to make it up). A fictionally coherent explanation might be that without a fear of mortality, people don't become wise. But that really is just some bogus I made up.

I would suggest that Wisdom could also be gained through social interaction with wiser pawns. It would allow ageless pawns to slowly become pinnacles of wisdom.
thanks for making a mod that fits my style !

the concept is really good and i love it, but the fact is wisdom shouldnt be only gained from age in a world where biological age can be manipulated with growth vats etc. also there are many people in real life that are old and are fools, nevertheless the concept is great but i think the system should be expanded way more to make it good

Software dev here. There's nothing wrong with using AI. Problem is if you don't understand things and use AI, it's like the blind leading the blind. Anyways, sooner or later AI will outclass even the best engineers shrugs.

Someone once asked me why do I think AIs can smarter than humans eventually, I just told them that the proof is that we exist. We are essentially biological machinery exemplifying the algorithms and mathematics of nature. We just don't know the full workings of this machinery yet... But when we do...

Perhaps a breakthrough in AI is also a breakthrough in the limitations of humans. Might explore that direction in pHD.

I also want to add I'm also not sure about wisdom with age because if that were true, most governments wouldn't make dumb decisions.

Personally I think if it was "trained" up whenever pawns gained moodlets instead. Having a social fight, losing a friend or lover to death, having a child, fulfilling an inspiration (from VE), watching a prisoner get butchered, etc.

Because an old person that's led a relatively sheltered life with little to no events isn't really going to be wiser than a younger pawn who's gone through hundreds of experiences.

I love the idea of this mod, I'm just scared of compatibility and conflicts.

Just my two cents on AI; it's a just tool, no more or less. Good, bad, harmful, beneficial, all depends on the user and not the tool itself.

People feel threatened by AI, I get it. I don't feel that way, but I get it.

It's a cool idea and I'm glad you were able to make it and share it with us all.
