Rustic Meal Retexture

Description
After playing Medieval Overhaul for a few playthroughs and then returning to VE mods, one of the things that hit me the most was the vanilla meal trays.

Not only do they look subpar compared to the rest of the VE content, but they also don’t thematically fit any colony that isn’t an industrial era cafeteria.

Description
This is a simple patch that replaces vanilla meal textures with ones more fitting for pre-industrial playthroughs.

Design Considerations
The new textures follow vanilla’s design philosophy:
  • While they’re no longer rectangular, they maintain a round shape for easy recognition at a distance
  • Their color reflects meal quality and ingredients (mixed, vegetarian, or meat-based).
  • Includes x2 and x10 stack variants.

Technical Details
  • Safe to add mid-game and should be safe to remove.
  • Textures match vanilla resolution (128x128).
  • Obviously, if you advance to Spacer tech while using this mod, your Spacer Pawns will still eat from bowls - but that has its own charm, right?

@Indigo Yeah well, I was planning on releasing the psd files with simple explanations so people can copy, learn, and do more of those, since I can't visibly keep up with the demands. It's honestly really simple to do the second you understand how to use vectors in an image editor. I'll prepare something somewhere this week or the next.

Hey Jelheb, awesome texture mod! This is what Vanilla should be so big thumbs up! Got a question or request per say:

Any way I can get a link to the vector graphics so I can resize/reposition them to my liking (not messing with the art, they're beautiful)? I've already accomplished this by cropping the bigger comparison simple meal on this steam page but the thicker & blurrier black outlines ruin it so I need to alter it on a vector program.

Also is it possible to make the sidebar show the x10 stack image instead of the x1? ( I've noticed things like Psychite Tea show the x150 stack image but meals are the x1 stack. It's a hair too small compared to vanilla sidebar items.

For those who have their game crash when moving the gravship, this mod has an incompatibility with adaptive storage ( as of recent patch, I think ), where the game is trying to draw a meal Graphic_MealVariants -> code tries to pick the right subgraphic -> index it calculates doesn’t exist → crash.

Then Adaptive Storage Framework (OptimizedPrintData → AssignThingGraphic → ThingCollection.Add) tries to render the thing when it’s registered in a storage cell, and the crash bubbles out while spawning gravship cargo (GravshipPlacementUtility.SpawnNonPawnThings).

Removing it fixes the issue.

This is gunna be a tall ask but I REALLY like how you did some of the other foods not just bowls (Like the cooking expanded ones (bakes grills etc... ) wouldit be possible to make some of the vanilla ones not in bowls too, to look like proper meals/food items?
