Landslide - Can you keep from being flooded out?

Having settled in a nice valley, the beavers are suddenly trapped in rising waters after a landslide dams the valley below.

Ironically, this is actually easier on hardmode due to shorter mild weather seasons and longer droughts ... But the map is nice so there's that I guess :)
