Description
F-15E Strike Eagle and Iraqi Scud Launcher MOD

Featuring Operation Desert Storm 'Scud Hunting' Loadouts

This a kitbash of the F-15C, implementing the F-15E Strike Eagle and it's favorite Desert Storm target: the Scud Launcher.

The F-15E Strike Eagle is the all-weather, deep-strike version of the F-15, with conformal fuel tanks (CFTs), a tandem-seat cockpit (for a pilot and a weapon systems officer) and optimized for long range ground attacks with additional low drag pylons. An array of avionics and electronics systems (AN/APG-70 dual mode radar and LANTIRN System with AN/AAQ-13 and AN/AAQ-14 targeting pods) gives the F-15E the capability to attack from low altitude, day or night, and in all weather conditions. The first production F-15E was delivered to the USAF in April 1988 and the Strike Eagles reached initial operational capability on 30 September 1989. The F-15Es were deployed during operation Desert Storm and played a crucial role in the destruction of Iraqi Scud sites by performing night 'Scud Combat Air Patrols' directed by E-8 J-STARS airborne ground surveillance aircrafts.

Mod Main Features:

  • AN/APG-70 (dual mode) radar replacing the F-15C's AN/APG-63 (air-to-air) radar. As an upgrade of the APG-63 the APG-70 is a multimode radar with both air-to-air and air-to-surface capabilities.
  • LANTIRN System with AN/AAQ-13 FLIR navigation pod and AN/AAQ-14 laser targeting pod.
  • Tandem-seat cockpit with weapon systems officer in the back seat.
  • Additional low drag weapon pylons (including 6 tangential hardpoints).
  • Empty mass increased to 17,010 kgs and the max fuel to 10,727 kgs to take into account the F-15E's conformal fuel tanks.
  • Climb rate decreased to 254 m/s due to the CFTs additional mass and drag.
  • Operation Desert Storm Loadouts (see below).
  • Iraqi Scud Launchers (see below). Because your birds need targets ;)

Loadouts:

  • Default (Desert Storm Default): 4 x AIM-9Ls, 4 x GBU-10s, 3 x Drop Tanks.
  • AirToAir: 4x AIM-9Ls, 4 x AIM-7Ms.
  • AirToAirLongRange: 4x AIM-9Ls, 4 x AIM-7Ms, 3 x Drop Tanks.
  • StrikePrecision (Desert Storm Scud Hunter Leader): 4 x AIM-9Ls, 5 x GBU-10s, 2 x Drop Tanks.
  • Strike (Desert Storm Scud Hunter Wingman): 4 x AIM-9Ls, 12 x Mk-82s, 3 x Drop Tanks.
  • StrikeHeavy (Desert Storm Low Drag General Purpose): 4 x AIM-9Ls, 5 x Mk-84s, 2 x Drop Tanks.
  • StrikeLongRange (Desert Storm Anti Armor Strike): 4 x AIM-9Ls, 8 x GBU-12s, 3 x Drop Tanks
Note:To be consistent with the game's timeframe the loadouts are those of the early versions of the F-15E, circa Operation Desert Storm.

Scud Launcher:

In order you'll be able to create Scud hunting scenarios I added a quick (i.e. not 100% accurate) kitbash of the (in)famous Iraqi Scud launcher (see screenshot). It cannot move neither fire its missile, it's just here to be on the receiving end of your F-15E's loadouts. You'll find it in the editor under: Land Units / Scud.

The Eagle Nest:

The mod also includes 'The Eagle Nest' a large US Air Force Base with a squadron of F-15Es, a squadron of F-15Cs and two E-3 AWACS. You'll find it in the editor under: Land Units / Eagle Nest.

Showcase Scenario:
The Great Scud Hunt

Operation Desert Storm has begun. A massive air Campaign by the Coalition forces, against Iraq, is underway. As a retaliation, Iraq's President, Saddam Hussein, ordered Scud ballistic missile strikes against Tel Aviv, in an effort to drag Israel into the war, and thus shatter the Coalition. As a consequence, destroying these Scud missiles becomes, not only a military, but also a political priority for the leaders of the Coalition. You and your wingmen, flying brand-new Strike Eagles, are part of a Scud Combat Air Patrol, in charge of finding and destroying Scud launchers, before they cause mayhem.

Companion Mod: E-8 JSTARS

If you want to recreate Operation Desert Storm's Scud Combat Air Patrols don't hesitate to download my E-8A Joint STARS MOD

Design Notes:

Due to the limitations of a kitbash (using in-game assets only ) there are a few inaccuracies:
The squadron liveries are not those of historical F-15E squadrons except for Squadron1=F-15E 335th TFS 'Chiefs' and Squadron2=F-15E 336th TFS 'Rocketeers'.
The conformal fuel tanks are not represented (although the aircraft range has been increased to simulate their presence). As a consequence the tangential hardpoints are somewhat misplaced.
Some clipping issues with the cockpit and the weapon systems officer when the canopy is open.
The LANTIRN pods are not removable.

Changelog March 1, 2025: Added 2 historical squadrons: Squadron1=F-15E 335th TFS 'Chiefs' and Squadron2=F-15E 336th TFS 'Rocketeers'. With correct camouflage color, and markings, not 100% accurate but better than the F-15C default liveries;).

Important (about mods and mods use):
This mod has been tested and is running perfectly on my computer (i7-11800H @ 2.30 Ghz - 16 GB RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050) with no other mod enabled. However, since they are as many computer configurations than computer users, it's unfortunately impossible to guarantee it will work on yours.
Be aware that by installing mods for Sea Power, you are modifying your game experience from the original intended product which is (as of March 2025) still in EARLY ACCESS. Therefore, later game updates/patches may cause this mod to be deprecated. Although it is very unlikely, the presence of other enabled mods might cause conflicts, and the more enable mods on your computer, the greater the chance of conflict. So, to sum it up, USE MODS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
If you wish to clean uninstal this mod make sure to follow these steps: 1) Uncheck this mod in the mod manager. 2) Click on Accept. 3) Unsubscribe. Then make sure the mod's file is no longer in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1286220 folder.

Could i use this Kit bash and loadouts for an Israeli F-15I mod I am trying to make? I would like to just give you credit rather than make my own and it seem like I'm stealing.

Thanks for your question. Actually that's a typo which already exists in the original usaf_f-15c.ini game file. But it's not an issue for the F15-E Strike Eagle mod since stations 3 and 4 are not used in any loadout ;).

Hi. could you verify about weapon station 3 & 4?

"Station3=0.04606,0.00138,-0.0077 //Right Wing pylon bottom
Station4=0.04606,0.00138,-0.0077 //Right Wing pylon bottom"

(Which one is the left wing bottom?)

Thanks!
