[B42] True Music Addon: Ephemera

Description

What's this?
This mod uses the True Music framework to bring a bunch of mostly non-music cassette tapes to Project Zomboid.

Why tho?
If you were a kid in the 80s or 90s, you probably remember cassette tapes being everywhere. They were on people's shelves, in their cars, in their travel bags. And they didn't all have music on them! There were cassettes for everything from self help tapes to kids bedtime stories to weird folk tales to advertisements.

What's in it?
A collection of period-accurate (1993 and before) cassettes collected from the Internet Archive. Oh, and one vinyl. Full list at the end of this description.

Like real cassettes, you get the whole thing here. No single-track tapes. For all of them except Plantasia, the tapes include the whole "album", or, in some cases here, the hole owl bum. When you hit "play", you get whatever the kind Internet Archive people digitized for that tape in on one long ... experience. Yes, experience. We'll call it that. So, yeah! Some of these very weird motivational self help tapes, etc, are an hour or more long! More than enough time to Achieve Freedom from Worry with the Aid of Self Hypnosis.

Davy Crockett: testing + incredible patience with my questions. thank you!!

Other notes
Please let me know of any weirdness and I'll do what I can.

For now, this collection requires the B42 True Music mod.

And please note that because some of these cassettes are quite long, the game can hang for a couple of seconds when hitting "Play" on them. Not much I can do about that. At least it doesn't crash. For me. So like, please let me know if it crashes for you. I can promise that I will definitely look at your comment and after might do something else.

@Pitlos Tails woo! I bet Steam just wasn't downloading it or something. It can be weird like that. Glad you got it working!

@Kenpachi so glad you dig it! There was some manual tweaking required but you can pretty much use the old true music guide, which has an .exe to set everything up, to create an addon for this and then add another couple of folders and you're done. You then need to remove some "wardrobe" spawns from one of the generated files (details are in other comment threads, I think in the one for the b42 true music mod) and then cassettes and vinyl will show up as loot. It took a little bit of head-to-wall bashing but got there in the end.

@Pitlos Tails very weird. Nobody else having this issue and not one I've had with the couple hundred mods I'm currently running. The only things that don't show up for me are mods made for other versions i.e. B41. I don't get it! You definitely unsubbed, with the game closed, waited for steam to validate PZ files and become playable, THEN resubbed (and waited for it to reacquire before launching)?

i am and i do have 42 true music, another true music addon appears but this one wont even after uninstalling and reinstalling twice

It also motivated me to finally look into creating some audio modpacks soon. My ADD just doesn't mix well with code.

There was few albums I wanted to create anyhow, but the German lesson tape kind of opens up some new doors. I've been interested and studying Japanese for about half a year and what better time to commit to study? Why not have lesson tapes on various subjects?

Some of you lucky bastards... who have actual friends could learn a new skill together while thumping zeds. Win-Win. Skillbooks, but for IRL. hehe

Oh wow. For the first time in my life I get to finally use the word sublime as it was intended to be used. This was a dope idea.

The retro vibe mixed with a feeling of random leftovers in a scenario where people are scavenging the city's bones clean. :chefs_kiss: 👌
