SITREP:

October 28, 1991. Off the coasts of Nova Scotia.

You are the Commanding Officer of the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Nicholas (FFG-47). On the return trip to her home port of Norfolk, after a joint fleet exercise with the Royal Canadian Navy, your vessel was caught in the midst of a severe storm. At 09:45 Zulu today you picked up a Mayday distress call from Penny Andrea a US fishing vessel based in Gloucester (MA). You are the closest vessel to Penny Andrea's last known position at 44° 77′ N, 57° 00′ W, about 160 nm east of Sable Island (Canada). She suffered from an engine breakdown and started to founder. Her crewmen managed to board the life raft, but they won't hold for long.
The weather is going to deteriorate in the coming hour with 30-foot (abt 9.1 m) waves and SW Wind gusts up to 80 knots. This will make impossible for your helos to safely operate and they'll need to return to the ship. This means you only have one hour to rescue the Penny Andrea’s survivors.

ORDERS:
1) Locate and identify Penny Andrea's life raft.
2) Bring USS Nicholas alongside the life raft in order to proceed to the rescue operation before the weather deteriorates (weather conditions are too severe for helicopters to be able to carry out an airlift of the survivors).
