SaltCane, "Ivo Van Damme was a 3:36 1500m runner in the 70s who smoked regularly, and Jørn Lauenborg was a 2:12 marathoner in the 80s who smoked regularly. So it is certainly still possible to run very fast times as a regular smoker."

And I have several friends from RL who play professional soccer AND smoke.

Yeah it's bad, but it doesn't make you a fucking turtle.

SaltCane you couldn't be more wrong. It all depends on the smokers habits (consumption rate, product used, after care and lung cleanses) There are many ways to negate the negative affects. Yes smoking a pack a day is downright bad for you(in zomboid you can get away with 1-2 a day which is nothing. Also, our bodies become stronger through resistance and smoking can be like a workout for the lunges if done properly.

On a side note, smokers have the ability to stay in a burning buildings for longer, there are even stories of firemen who would train their lungs with tobacco so they wouldn't be as sensitive to smoke (before respirators became prevalent I believe ahaha) ; )

Hot take but this change makes sense. "I am a smoker but I can run well" Well yeah, but it is an undeniable fact that being a habitual smoker will harm your lungs and by extension your cardiovascular capabilities.

For professions, if you are a smoking veteran or police officer you will still have more fitness than the average person for obvious reasons but you simply won't be more fit than peers with the same profession cause it makes no sense.

Yeah, there's smokers with above average endurance but if they didn't smoke their endurance be significantly higher. If you took two people, the fact that one is a habitual smoker is a significant disadvantage to their athletic ability.

I'm surprised this is a thing. I both smoke and have an award on my wall for "Superior Physical Fitness" from my time in the Police Academy. The Smokers in my class were all the fastest runners and the most active of the cadets.
