Steam "UPDATING EXECUTABLE" Bug Fix

The Steam version has a bug where it only shows “Updating Executable” when you try to open the game, and after a while, nothing happens.

The files here are the executables and DLLs from the GoG version.

To install, extract to the game's main folder, confirm overwrite and open the game from Steam client.

Got banned from XCOM because of this

I've been banned from the XCOM discussion forums until December 12th, as you can see in the image.

Also, seems like I can't reply anymore in the comments section down below.

If my guide goes down, and one day you need the files again, I suggest buying the GoG version, downloading the files, asking for a refund and using the files to fix the Steam version.

The devs don't seem concerned about fixing the game, and I'm considering asking for a refund on my Steam version. I'm losing the will to get to know this game.

What is this?

I see a lot of people having trouble running the game. Apparently it has something to do with the 2K launcher and problems on Steam.

This patch is experimental, using files from GoG's DRM-free version. If you want something more guaranteed to work without problems, I recommend that you buy GoG's version.

Tested with the game version with all DLCs. Should work with base game only.

I'm aware about the patch not changing the DLC language. I've doing some testing, but haven't found the source of the problem yet.

Same, many thanks for posting this fix - it was aobut the only thing that worked for me after multiple failed attempts at solutions from reddit & the forums. Sorry to hear you were banned just for posting a potential fix to an issue that support at steam and firaxis both clearly have no interest in sorting too.

Hey mate, I figured it out while messing around with the files trying to install mods. Basically, you can start with a fresh download from Steam, and only need to replace 4 files (from a working copy of the game) to fix the "updating executable" bug. They are:

\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XComGame.exe
\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XComEW.exe
\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\Binaries\Win32\XComGame.exe
\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\Binaries\Win32\XComEW.exe

just checked, only Enemy Unknown was in english, enemy within was in spanish
