RST Campaign War for Indonesia

Description

You need the two mods for the airbases displayed on the right!

A small update on the next and final mission.

The last mission is a patrol between the small islands of the Banda Arc to finally cut off the rebels' supply lines. Since not only the player has limited resources, but—according to my notes—the enemy does as well, the opposing forces no longer have a proper fleet after recent events. Instead, they rely on torpedo boats and smaller vessels, which still pose a threat in this situation.

Unfortunately, this also means that the final mission of the campaign will be delayed. The enemy boats strictly follow their preset course and speed from the editor, and the AI does not adjust their behavior upon spotting enemies to launch attacks. This turns the final mission into a weak showcase rather than a truly challenging experience. I will have to wait for an update to scripts, triggers, or the AI before this campaign can reach its conclusion.

A big thank you to all players who have tried out this mission series!

Short Overview:

This mission series aims to provide missions with realistic threats and challenges within the current possibilities. Each mission is designed so that at the beginning, there is a calm phase where you can form your units and plan your operation. With a bit of effort on your part, you can create an immersive experience with persistent resources. Ships and aircraft you lose can easily be removed using the F10 menu. The missions are designed in a way that makes this approach logical.

The Red Spread Timeline is an alternate history where more revolutions occur worldwide, and the Communist Bloc invests heavily in naval supremacy. More campaigns are planned to further expand this timeline.

In 1975, the Vietnam War ended with a victory for the communists. This victory was not just the conclusion of a civil war but a signal to the world that a superpower like the United States could be defeated. In the aftermath of the war, the United States reduced its global engagements to maintain its dominance and became more hesitant to intervene in conflicts.

Communist rebellions ignited around the globe, and the media began referring to this phenomenon as the "Red Spread." Although it seemed to be exactly what the USSR had always sought, new powers were emerging during this time, vying for their place in the sun. The USSR and China now competed for dominance within the communist bloc.

The situation has escalated in Indonesia, where unorganized rebel skirmishes had already begun following America's withdrawal from Vietnam. Over time, the rebels grew stronger. Their successes brought them more recruits and support from other nations. The Chinese Guangdong Brigade and the Cuban "Luchador de la Jungla" have made their names known.

The situation in the strategically vital Sulu Archipelago has spiraled out of control, as large portions of the Indonesian navy, air force, and army have joined the Red Sulu Army's forces.

The coup attempt failed, as the army on the main island of Java remained loyal to the government, except for a few brigades. However, the situation on the other islands is reversed. Furthermore, the uprising has now spread to the Malaysian parts of Borneo. Following the defection of Indonesia’s navy and air force, the rebels crossed national borders and attacked Malaysian army positions, pushing them far to the north.

Despite widespread war fatigue, the situation now compels the United States to act. Alongside its Philippine allies, the United States has established Task Force Parrot, which aims to provide naval and air support to the loyalist forces of Indonesia and Malaysia.

Notes and Rules:

Operation Sulu Warrior is designed as a campaign consisting of multiple missions. Since the game currently doesn’t fully utilize its potential, I’ve outlined rules here to convey how the mission is intended to be played and when it should be considered complete. At present, I cannot implement detailed triggers and designs for the mission, so these rules should guide you in playing and understanding the mission flow.

Core Rules

All missions in the Operation Sulu Warrior campaign have a playtime of 2-3 hours without time acceleration. All events, triggers, and attacks will occur within this timeframe. Any remaining tasks, including those in subsequent missions, are up to you. Sometimes the victory and loss triggers may not work as intended. Always keep track of your objectives and consider the mission complete when you have achieved your goals.

You are the CTG (Commander Task Group) of Task Force Parrot. Starting from Mission 1, you will continue playing with the same ships and aircraft throughout the campaign. Record any losses and manually deduct them in subsequent missions.

Example: If you start Mission 1 with 16 Phantoms at the US Airbase Nightingale and lose some aircraft in combat, subtract those losses from that airbase’s resources in the next mission. Apologies, but I cannot implement persistent resources at the moment.

The same rule applies to ships. For instance, if you lose the U.S.S. Sellers during a mission, and it reappears later, do the following: Select the unit you lost, press F10, click on Arm, and then on Self-Destruct.

Sometimes, you will receive additional units that do not need to be tracked or deducted. For example, in Mission 1, the Philippine destroyers of the Gearing-class are reinforcements. If a ship is listed only by its type and not by name, it is not part of your core resource pool.

Balancing and Progression

The balancing is being tested and is intended to increase in difficulty over the course of the campaign while maintaining a realistic scenario. By managing your losses manually, you can adjust the difficulty level yourself. Your Task Force will receive reinforcements over time.

Through Gamemaster Notes, it will be clearly indicated which units are permanently assigned to your force and which are available only for the current mission.

The mission structure is designed to always include a definitive threat as well as random ones. Upon restarting, attacks may occur differently due to random encounters. Always pay close attention to the briefing to understand the possible threats.

Ares28 I thoroughly test all missions before uploading them and never had no chance. Which mission do you mean exactly?

As of 5-01-2025 the campaign is unplayable due to the large amount of aitplanes and SAM missiles being unable to intercept any of the attacking bombers.

Will play now!

@sideofchickenN and NonnyRat (Ali) I think I managed to get it working. Have fun! It would be nice to get some feedback if it works for you now. This includes not only that the mission is displayed and starts but also that a briefing appears at the start.

SideofchickeN and NonnyRat(Ali) Tomorrow there will be an update including Mission 5, along with renaming the mission and another adjustment to the file structure. I had to revisit it because the launcher wouldn't accept more than three missions in the old structure. Please unsubscribe and resubscribe again tomorrow evening. If it still doesn't work, let me know, and I'll try to fix it again.

Same problem as sideofchickeN for me: can see the mission in Mod Manager, but cannot make it appear in Scenarios list. Have tried full game restarts and unsubscribing and resubscribing to the mission.

I'm having issues where the mod shows up in my mod manager (and I have it selected), but it does not show up in the mission list
