COMBAT ASSAULT: Molos

Description
v1.3
Performance update

ASSAULT THE OBJECTIVE - SEIZE THE INITIATIVE
Combat Assault is a rush/frontline inspired single player game mode. Your objective is to capture 3 objectives from the enemy one after the other as the enemy's defence crumbles.
Leave a like, favourite, or comment if I should make more of these COMBAT ASSAULT scenarios with different factions, maps, supports, and gameplay features.

FEATURES
  • Single player respawn & ticket system
  • Dynamic firefights in detailed environments
  • Weapon selection on respawn - compatible with your favourite weapon mods
  • Risk-reward fire support request system - no mundane "point-click-map-boom"
  • Dynamic soundtrack that responds to intensity of gameplay
  • No mods or DLC required to play
    - run as vanilla or as modded as you like

DURATION:
10-30 minutes

F.A.Q.
  • How do I capture the objectives?
Capture objectives by having more troops than the enemy within the capture radius. The capture radius is ~30m and marked on the map for each objective. If you have more troops in the area for a given amount of time, you will capture that objective. You can only capture 1 objective at a time.

  • Why has friendly AI become dispersed and is attacking in smaller numbers?
If the MSP is still alive and far from the current objective, your allies can become spread out. Move the MSP closer to the current objective to fix.

  • What is that blue number on the left of my screen?
The blue number is your ticket counter that tells you how many reinforcements your side has left. If the number reaches 0 and you die, you lose. If you cannot see the blue number on the left of your screen please report this in the BUGREP discussion and include your interface display size. You can try changing your interface size in video settings to "NORMAL" as a quick fix.

  • Why are the sounds or music muddled/too loud/too quiet?
The audio for this scenario has been mixed to a level balance ie. effects and music both at 100% in the audio options. Try setting your effects & music to the same level as each other and adjust your speaker/headphone volume instead. If you are still unhappy with the audio mix, then change your effects or music levels in the options menu, and please report your experience in the BUGREP discussion, including what level worked best for you and how you were listening to the game.

  • How do I call in fire support?
Each fire support has a colored smoke grenade linked to it (red, green & yellow). To call support, throw or fire a smoke grenade at the target and wait 5 seconds for confirmation. Only vanilla A3 smoke grenades and underbarrel grenades will work ie. 3GL smoke grenades and modded smoke grenades will not work. Fire support has a cool off after each use - you will receive a radio message when support is available again.

  • Why do I need to mark a JDAM strike using a hand thrown smoke grenade??
    Because ♥♥♥♥ you that's why.

KNOWN ISSUES
  • AI can spawn from MSP & CV while they are moving leading to "paratroopers"
  • Running VCOM AI can cause the CV to go AWOL - if you have this issue, try launching without VCOM, or with an alternate AI modification mod
  • Radio messages can overlap
  • Gunship can take an extra 5 seconds than it should to get on target
  • Ticket counter on left of screen may appear to skip numbers or double count a death - the tickets are still tracked accurately, the display is simply updated less regularly to reduce unnecessary extra loops in the function

Thanks for playing Omar Slim, glad you enjoyed it.

Still hoping to improve this little gamemode - currently working on another scenario with added features and will look at transferring those gameplay improvements to this one once I've got it all working.

Unfortunately Awesomichael, not yet .

I'm hoping to implement custom faction support once I've got the gamemode a little more ironed out. Plus I've only ever grabbed arrays from the config on the fly for things like adding magazines for a random weapon, never to support whatever modded vehicle or units someone has loaded - if anyone has any links to guides, tutorials or BI forums pages dealing with adding custom faction support, I'd be grateful for the pointers.

If it helps, you can load whatever weapon or equipment mod you like and still play with that.

custom faction support?

Have pushed out a performance update for this scenario - I'm averaging 10-20fps extra now (running vanilla).

If anyone notices any bugs or repeated frame drops please comment or head over to the BUGREP discussion so I can look into the issue and hopefully improve performance for everyone.

Blastcore is an essential for me but always devours my frames!

Fps drops with 2000 view distance isn't good enough though - I'll try to extend the cleanup script, optimise the functions, then see what I can do about clearing up unnecessary clutter etc

Thanks Komodo!
Komodo Nov 22, 2024 @ 1:48am
yeah i had blastcore (i'll remove it)
-Sigsound soundmod
-Viewdistance of around 1900-2000

Thanks for playing and commenting Komodo, sorry you experienced fps drops.

Are you able to provide a few more details as I'm currently working on optimisation and personally am able get ~50-60fps on average. I've only experienced fps drops when running blastcore or dialling my view distance over 9000 .

I'm looking at getting the cleanup function to run more often than just on player respawn, but some details about any mods you were running/how high the corpses were piled when you had these drops might help me zero in.

Thanks again!

fun concept, but the fps drop was severe
