How to install a custom sight

Simple, quick and updated guide on how to install customizable sights in War Thunder. Since the last update that changed the sights, the installation process has changed, but it is still easy. It is worth remembering that using customizable sights, skins, hangars and sound mods is perfectly safe and authorized by Gaijin.

• Download the Sights

1. Go to:
 War Thunder Sights Page [live.warthunder.com]


2. Choose your favorites. I recommend filtering by the most downloaded ones.

There are generic individual sights for any type of tank, there are sights specific to each tank and there are packages with several sights for all tanks of certain nations.

• Create the "UserSights" folder

3. Go to the game installation folder (Usually in Local Disc C). 

If you use Steam, you can follow the path in the image:




4. Create a folder with the name: "UserSights".

• If you download a Generic Sight:

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN THE INSTALLATION OF AN INDIVIDUAL SIGHT AND A PACKAGE WITH SEVERAL SIGHTS, PAY ATTENTION:

If you downloaded a single sight to use on all tanks, the process is a little more complicated. We need to find out the name of each tank and create a folder for it. (If the tank already has a folder, you don't need it)

5.1. Open the game, select the tank, and choose "Customization" or "Preview".



5.2. Click on the magic wand. The name of the tank and nation will appear. (IGNORE the "templete_" at the beginning of the name)




5.3. Go to the "UserSights" folder. I created a folder with the name that appeared (write only the name of the tank, e.g.: ussr_t_80uk)



5.4. Drop the sight file (.blk) into the tank folder.

• If you downloaded a Sight Pack:

If you downloaded a package with several sights, for several tanks of a certain nation and the file is full of folders with the names of the tanks. SO WE DON'T NEED TO CREATE FOLDERS WITH THEIR NAMES.

5.1.1 Open the downloaded file, select all the folders (they will have tanks names) and move them into the "UserSights" folder.

• Test in game

6. Open the game and go to the training ground.



7. Open the options. Select Tank and click on the first option: "Sight Configuration".



8. Select the sight you downloaded (it should appear first, above all others) and click "Save".



9. Test



10. To avoid having to restart the game, you can use the shortcut Alt-F9, which will update the custom sights while you are in the game, just keep changing the files in the "UserSights" folder.

(Sometimes the shortcut doesn't work, but you can just change it to a different key, the shortcut is in: Tank -> Miscellaneous -> Reload Custom Sight)
