DOT Hazmat Placards

DOT placards are warning signs used to identify hazardous materials during transportation. These placards are required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and are crucial for ensuring safety in case of an emergency, such as a spill, fire, or accident.

Colors:

Red typically indicates flammable materials.
Orange is used for explosives.
Yellow signifies oxidizers or reactive materials.
Green indicates non-flammable gases.
White is for health hazards, like toxic or infectious substances.
Blue usually represents materials that are dangerous when wet.
Black and white denote corrosive substances.
Numbers:

The 4-digit number in the center of the placard (known as the UN number) identifies the specific chemical or hazardous material.
The 1-digit number at the bottom of the placard indicates the hazard class (e.g., 1 for explosives, 3 for flammable liquids, 8 for corrosives).
Together, the colors and numbers provide essential information for first responders and those handling the materials, helping them understand the risks involved and respond appropriately.
