Mig-17 Fresco was a single engine subsonic fighter, while it might look similar to the Mig-15 [you know], they are different aircraft. While it lacked advanced avionics and systems it could take on a more modern fighter like an F-4 due to its agility and manoeuvrability.

Mig-19 Farmer was a twin engine supersonic fighter and interceptor. It had relatively advanced systems and was a dangerous foe even against third generation fighters thanks to its agility and guns which proved to be very useful in an era when missile technology was not very reliable
