Dota 2 Matchmaking Rank Medal Calculations

This guide is all you need to know about Matchmaking Rank and how the calculations are done per rank.

Matchmaking Rank

Matchmaking Rank reflect a player's skill level for a specific season, determined by their matchmaking rating (MMR) and other hidden criteria. These rankings are exclusive to ranked matches. Medals can be recalibrated anytime through the settings. You can

1. To navigate, open your Dota 2 game and go to the settings (the gear icon on the top left of your screen).

2. Go to the "Account" tab, on the top of the overlaid settings window










3. Immediately, you'll see an "Activate recalibration" button. You can click it now, but I highly suggest that you keep reading before you hit that button. Do note that you can only recalibrate your MMR once a year.

Calculation (Read this first!)

• Valve keeps the exact calculation for earning medals secret, and it may change over time. This also means when you recalibrate, there is an uncertainty of the MMR you'll get. It might remain the same, increase, or at worst decrease.
  
• This guide provides rough estimates based on community observations.
  
• MMR won't always match the estimated medal, with differences of a few points being normal.
  
• MMR isn't the only factor in determining medal rank.
  
• Some players may have medals much higher than their MMR due to:
  
• Rank medal not being updated since the system doesn't immediately demote a players rank medal.
  
• The system remembering peak skill level, not current skill level, to combat smurfs and intentional derankers.
  
• Medals displayed during matchmaking may vary on multiple factor such as being in a party that adjust each members MMR to level it with other players during matchmaking.
