Introduction to R&D History：
The Dongfeng 10A electric transmission diesel locomotive is a double section, double link electric transmission diesel locomotive successfully developed by Dalian Locomotive Works in 1988. It was first approved for design in 1984. The locomotive adopts a 12V240ZJ internal combustion engine modified from the 16V240ZJ internal combustion engine of Dongfeng 4, with a installed power of 1985kW.
In 1990, the locomotive was officially assigned to the Jinchengjiang locomotive depot of Liuzhou Railway Bureau for operational testing; In subsequent applications, the locomotive demonstrated better adaptability to small radius railway lines than locomotives with three axle bogies. However, the average single axle power of the locomotive was relatively high, resulting in insufficient track adhesion and limiting the upper limit of traction weight. It also caused wheelsets to spin and made it difficult to start on slopes; Even when driving on rainy days, the sand in the sand box's auxiliary brake consumes very quickly. Due to these issues, it was completely replaced by the Dongfeng 7D model in 1998 and sealed at the Jinchengjiang locomotive depot.
After 2002, this group of two locomotives was put back into use for shunting operations at the Nanning locomotive depot. In 2004, one of the diesel locomotives was transported to Liuzhou locomotive depot for shunting operations. Finally, these two locomotives were scrapped and dismantled in 2010.
