Description

Warning: Any mod adding new creatures requires a new world to be generated, otherwise they will not spawn (since they were not generated as a part of a world's population).

Creature description
A cavern-dwelling tortoise with fragrant moss growing on its back. Moss tortoise periodically sheds this moss by itself, that can be brewed into medicinal 'mossbrew tonic' that greatly raises recuperation and disease resistance for a prolonged period of time (one season).

They are found underground and are domestic pets to dwarves.

Their main function is to be pets, as well as produce moss that can be brewed into "mossbrew tonic" in Still. It's an alcohol that greatly boosts recuperation and disease resistance for a season. The moss cannot be grown naturally, it only comes from tortoises.

Creature population
Biome: Subterranean chasm, 1st-2nd cavern
Population: 25-50

This is one of creatures from my old Genesis mod. I've decided to release each creature separately, so you could pick and choose what you want.

If you like the mod, you will make me happy if you rate it and share it with your friends. And remember, Losing is Fun!

This mod simply adds a new creature (with related bodyparts and inorganic materials), so it cannot conflict with anything.
It needs vanilla materials/bodypart definitions to function.

It seems that hatchling scales can't be tanned, is this intentional? Just want to check!

One of my favourite creatures, but I have a few notes:

I think you went a bit hard on the moss dropping rate, a population of 50 can easily sustain an entire fortress of 200 dwarfs. I've 1385 barrels of mossbrew tonic and 955 units or tortoise moss left. My brewers work non-stop on a repeating job. It only stops when I run out of barrels.

Maybe lower the rate a bit or make it that multiple units of moss are required to brew a tonic? Or add a processing step in between that soaks up a bit of the excess moss, like tortoise moss -> tortoise moss extract -> mossbrew tonic.

Number of eggs is also a bit much, I think it were eight per clutch? My tortoise population exploded quite fast (not cat fast, but still). Reducing it to 1-3 would probably help to slow down the overabundance of moss, too.

Seems like they deleted the standard brew drink from plant and brew drink from fruit and made them "brew drink and save seeds" or something. I tried even with all other plants forbidden just to check and it still wont ever select the tortoise moss. I will try to add it back I guess. tho current fortress i had to set the moss to auto dump

It depends on "how" they messed with brewing. This mod simply adds a new plant that can be brewed using standard brewing reaction. What happens if you try to use that reaction?

If they removed standard reaction from the entity, then you would want to readd it back or make a custom one.

I really like this but it isnt compatible with Advanced Agriculture, they messed with brewing orders and I cant get it to brew up the moss. I have like 300 inedible moss now in my fortress lol.

Do you know if its easy to fix?
