Introduction to R&D History：
The Dongfeng 8D electric drive diesel locomotive is a diesel locomotive successfully manufactured by Dalian Locomotive Factory in 2000. The locomotive has produced a total of 5 locomotives of two different models, one of which is the high-speed model (DF11D). These locomotives use a large amount of imported hardware, and the internal combustion engine is also the 12V280ZJ diesel engine improved by the Southwest Research Institute in the United States. In subsequent application tests, fatal problems were caused by frequent problems with the turbocharger of the internal combustion engine, which were ultimately sent back to Dalian Locomotive Works for storage and scrapping together with the DF11D model in 2003. However, seven years later, the 12V280ZJ diesel engine was further improved and received private enterprise orders. After extensive improvements, three more Dongfeng 8D models were produced and assigned to Shanxi Local Railway Company and Inner Mongolia Jitong Railway Company. However, four to five years later, the locomotives were still scrapped and sealed due to some issues.
