111-121 is a series of large—panel multi-section residential buildings of industrial housing construction. The development of residential buildings of the 121 series was started by the Central Research and Design Institute of Residential and Public Buildings (TSNIIEP housing) in 1968, and the first experimental five-storey house of the 121 series was built by the Voskresensk DSK of the Glavmosoblstroy large-panel housing Trust in Voskresensk in 1970. The first experimental nine-storey house of the 121 series was built by the Orel House-building Plant (now JSC "Orelstroyindustria") Orelstroy Trust in Yagodny Lane in the 290th quarter of the city of Orel in 1972.

The 111-121 series was developed as an analogue of the 111-90 series and is in many ways similar to its apartment layouts. The 111-90 series used new building structures and required a complete replacement of the equipment of the house-building plants that produced the most massive Khrushchev 1-464 series. The designs of the 111-121 series are mainly unified with the 1-464D, which simplified the transition to the new series. The first five-storey houses of the 121 series had the index 1-464M.

Houses of the 121 series are widely represented in the Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Kostroma, Pskov, Kazan, Tver, Tolyatti, Orel, Orenburg, Leningrad region, Velikiye Luki, Rostov-on-Don and many other cities and towns.

The Tolyatti modification 121T, in addition to Tolyatti, has been widely used in cities with nuclear power plants, such as Pripyat, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Kurchatov, Kuznetsovsk.

As part of the series, both standard multi-apartment block sections (ordinary, end, rotary and angular with internal or external rotation angles of 135° or 90°) and block sections with apartments for small families (standard project 121-066), dormitories for workers and employees, single-family houses (standard project 181-121-88/1.2) or two apartments (standard project 181-121-104.84). The position of the block sections in the building is different, as well as the variant of the planning solution of the first floors (with a wheelchair, an electrical panel room, a through passage or passage, etc.).
