Byzantine Faith and Cataphract boost

Description
This mod improves Byzantiums faith generation and the Cataphract.

Firstly there is a 1 faith per turn and +5 defense buff to the capital. This is intended to ensure you can get a religion and have more flexibility in choosing pantheons, The defense bonus represents the land walls of constantinople which enabled the city to survive sieges for 1000 years until the advent of cannon.

The next change moves the Cataphract to Civil Service and makes it a Knight replacement UU.

For Byzantines a Horseman UU never made sense as this unit is in the same place in the tech tree as Greek Companion Cavalry which were used around 300BC.
The East Roman (Byantine) Empire existed as it's own entity after the fall of Rome in the late 5th century AD. Medieval era Cataphracts were used frequently from the 4-5th century onwards to replace the legion system which was soon disbanded.

The intention is to build more synergy into this Civ. Now you can focus your start on religion and Theology then shift to Civil Service for Cataphracts to dominate the early medieval battlefield.

Does the Cataphract have increased strength from this mod or is it the same as normal?

Technically you are correct but there is confusion over the precise definition of a cataphract; the term Cataphract just refers to a horse and rider that is fully clad in scale armor.

Byzantium military strategy and equipment evolved from antiquity to medieval era. For instance Stirrups were introduced from the Avars but full plate armor never made it because after after the 4th Crusade the Empire lost access to the resources that allowed it to maintain the best army in Europe.
Regardless Byzantium still had much of the resources and power of the Roman Empire and could field large professsionaly trained and well equipped armies. Therefore they deserve to have a UU that can dominate the 30-40 turns that comprises the early medieval period.

Hi. thanks for the comments.
Yes sigmacraft is right. I chose that picture simply because I could not find any other picture that presented what Byzantine Cataphracts may have looked like and Tolkiens vision of Gondor while not intentionally allegorical did portray the people of Minas Tirith as a high cultured, educated and wealthy medieval society. The only European society that can meet that category in the middle ages is Byzantium.

The parthians were the ones who largely focused the use on cataphracts and horse archers they were around before and after the seleucid empire fell but were eventually overthrown by the sassanids who still used cataphracts.

bruva kitteh and to anyone else who is wondering why the pic is from LOTR, Gondor is based largely on Byzantium(men in meddle are based on Roman history),JRR Tolkien himself wrote about "The Byzantine City of Minas Tirith",and Peter Jackson used Byzantine buildings for Gondor's buildings because how Gondor is based on Byzantium. That is my reasoning for it at lest
