历史信息介绍Introduction to R&D History：
东风7E型重型电力传动内燃调车，是以中国铁道部下令为铁路干线逐步开行5000吨级重载列车并为此做适配提出多种要求，其中包括了铁路25吨轴重机车的设计生产。以此为前提，1998年二七机车厂在东风7C型内燃机车的基础上开发了一种重型编组调车；相较于前一型号，这一型机车最初使用和DF7C一样的内燃机，但为了提高机车牵引性能在1999年换装为12V240ZJ6E型内燃机，功率由2500马力提升至3000马力。另外，该机车车重可以通过加载或减少压铁实现135~150吨的变化。东风7E型首台机车于1998年制成，1999年完成了运用测试；该机车只生产了一台，截至2020年仍在河南新乡机务段服役。
