Information & A Bit Of History

The VN Series

While Volvo’s cars may be more popular, the company also has trucks, and some of those trucks are American long-nose trucks. These trucks are the VN series, often known as the VNL series. Even though Volvo is a Swedish company based out of Göteborg (Gothenburg), over the years, it has become a household name in the United States.

The production of the 1st generation of the trucks started in 1996, and the series has been developed into multiple sub series, including the VNL, VNM and VNR. For example, the R in VNR means “regional”. The 3 digit numbers like 300, 400 or 700 signify the size of the cab, with the 760 being the most popular. Volvo also unveiled their new VNX series in 2013, it is specialized for heavy-haul operations.

Volvo has also announced its new 2nd generation trucks in 2024. The new lineup includes new VNL and VNR models with upgrades such as a fully digital dash display or digital mirrors. Overall, the Volvo trucks are luxurious, safe and an all around great pick for most truckers.

    Operations

    Driving
    • The truck can be started using the Start switch on the right side of the dash.
    • The truck has 12 drive gears, 1 neutral gear (gear 0, on by default) which automatically turns parking brake on and 1 reverse gear (gear -1).
    • The truck has a manual transmission, though if the RPS goes below 3, it goes to a lower gear.
    • Parking brake can be activated by: gear 0, button on dash, key 6.
    • The trailer’s parking brake can by activated by pressing “Evacuate trailer air supply”.

    Locking/Unlocking doors
    • The doors are unlocked by default.
    • To lock/unlock, press the 6 key when in channel 7 on your remote control unit.
    • The lock/unlock button on the right side of the dash can also be used for this.
    • Please note: when the doors are unlocked, they will go to the state they were/were meant to be in, which can cause doors to open when they are unlocked.

    Notes
  • Steering gets stiffer with higher speeds, so if you want to make a fast turn, go slower.
  • If you want to get higher speeds out of this, change the max RPS in the constant number that is used by the ECU to a higher value.
  • I wrote this description on my phone, so there might be some problems with it.
  • If the engine stalls and doesn’t want to start (happens rarely), give it some throttle.

Great truck man. Good power, a manual transmission, awesome detailed accurate interior. A great contrast to the newer popular trucks on the ws that are basic af lol.
