Introduction to R&D History：
The Datong electric transmission diesel locomotive, code DT20, is a diesel engine supply agreement signed between Datong Locomotive Factory and Shaanxi Diesel Engine Factory, and was designed based on it. The locomotive mainly uses an internal combustion engine designed by the French Internal Combustion Engine Research Institute (SEMT Pielstick). At that time, a technical patent was signed for introduction and authorized manufacturing. This type of locomotive was designed in 1988 and completed trial production and operational testing in 1989. As expected, it had been more than a decade since the reform and opening up, and at that time, the idea of 'buying is better than making' was prevalent. In addition, the diesel engine of this type of locomotive had not yet been fully produced nationwide, resulting in a cost that was about 30% more expensive than locomotives of the same type and specification with proprietary technology; Due to these reasons, this type of locomotive was not accepted by the market at the time and ended up with a short-lived fate. After factory testing, it was sealed in the garage until it was dismantled in 1995, and the original diesel engine was returned according to the authorization agreement.
