东风5模块化改进型电力传动内燃机车，由四方机车厂对此前的改进型号再度进行改进，主要改进方面是使用了模块化的车身，电控系统，交流电机等，并使用了8240JZC型燃机。截至2006年，这一型机车一共生产了132台。
