Description
Play as the Regent of Ahmadnagar, Malik Ambar; in Sid Meier's Civilization VI.

Africans first entered India with the success of the early Caliphate marching into the Indus River. African mujahideen, known as Zanjis as they were from the Swahili Coast or Zanj, may have took part of Muhammad ibn al-Qasim's invasion. After the Arabs found success throughout the Indian Ocean, the slave trade in East Africa exploded and exports of African slaves were transferred from the Swahili Coast and Ethiopia into Yemen, Egypt, the Mashriq, and Iran. Later Europeans, such as the Portuguese, would also exchange slaves with the various Sultanates in India. It is likely that Afro-Indians came to be known as either Habshees from Habesha (Ethiopia) or as Siddis (East Bantus) who were shipped in Arabic sayyid-type vessels. Life for the Afro-Indians turned for the better with the introduction of the Deccani Sultanates as these Persianate polities looked for any Islamicised ethnicity for support while they operated in the Deccan Plateau. The most notable Afro-Indian during the Islamic age of gunpowder was Malik Ambar, a slave that was freed after his master's death who then turned to mercenary work. After a lifetime of war, he secured his legacy as the kingmaker (peshwa or prime minister) of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate. Other African peoples saw success in India as well, such as the Habeshas who took the Janjira Fort to establish their own state or the Habshi dynasty that briefly ruled the Bengal Sultanate during a period of turmoil. Today, the African diaspora in India is remembered by a million-strong Habeshas and Siddis that cling to the coasts of Sindh, Gujarat, and Karnata.

FEATURES
  • Requires: RISE AND FALL and GATHERING STORM.

    LEADER: MALIK AMBAR (HABSAN AND INDIA)
  • Trait - Neher System: +50% Production towards the Aqueduct, Canal, Dam, and their buildings. Cities gain +1 Amenity and +2 Housing from each Aqueduct, Canal, or Dam. Units within 2 tiles of an Aqueduct, Canal, or Dam gain +3 Combat or Religious Strength for each type of district in range. Districts, improvements, and units are immune to damage from Floods. Enemies suffer +100% damage from Floods if in your home territory.
  • Agenda - Regent of Ahmadnagar: Likes civilizations with a large population and army. Dislikes civilizations with a small population and army.

    CIVILIZATION: HABSAN
  • Trait - Goma Dance: Defeating an enemy unit grants Great Musician points and Culture equal to 10% of enemy Combat Strength, doubled if adjacent to coast or lake and doubled again if adjacent to a river. Units that are fighting on coast or next to a lake or river have a chance to capture defeated enemy units.
  • Alt Names - Janjira, Ethiopic-India, and Zanji-India.
  • Spawn Bias - None.

    CIVILIZATION UNIT: HYDERABADHITE GUARD
  • Habshi unique Renaissance era Light Cavalry class unit that replaces the Cavalry. Available at Exploration. Costs 1 Horses maintenance when not on the same continent as the Capital. +5 Combat Strength when on the same continent as the Capital, doubled when also within 10 tiles of the Capital.

    CIVILIZATION IMPROVEMENT: JANJIRA FORT
  • Unlocks the Builder ability to construct a Janjira Fort, unique to Habsan. +1 Production and Gold, increases to +2 Production and Gold with Exploration and +3 Production and Gold with Cultural Heritage. Trade Routes sent from the city gain +1 Production and Gold for every Janjira Fort. Naval units that occupy the tile gain +5 Combat Strength. Sea Trade Routes within 4 tiles cannot be plundered. Increases the Movement cost of the tile. Must be built adjacent to 3 land tiles.

    Old civs are mine are likely to get additional leaders, @Rafer1997. In particular there is a new Iroquois leader and hero combo I want to put out. I wanted to bring more Civilization V leaders into VI, but the issue of artstyle is what has always held me back. I think I will have to change my leader art in the coming months. But this notion of leaders is going to be secondary to my pride and joy on the Workshop: the derelict Deluxe mod.

    thanks bro for all the civ mods, and double thanks that they work on TSL. yeah livening up and refurbishing old mods would give you more time for yourself to enjoy. I appreciate your vast understanding of the worlds various cultures, especially the lesser known ones. if you ever do comeback to make a new civ, we could use a morocco civ since that area is always void on tsl maps. or perhaps a Libya civ.

    Thank you very much for all your great mods, Strudeler! Though I am sad there won't be any more (at least for a long time), I still have the old ones to comfort me. And I'll be sure to check out anything you do, wether updating old civs or smaller projects!

    But really, thanks for all the lesser known civilizations and cultures that have received little representation in the Civ modding community. You do have a fairly unique portfolio.

    A message to all my subscribers,

    Habsan marks a transition from new civilizations to an era of smaller leader packs, heroes, and a focus on maintenance. Nobody should expect a new civilization for a long time. I am very thankful to all of you. I never expected to have any reach on the workshop. I aim to focus on video production as well, this may include new first look videos and civilization series. New civilizations will return one day.
