Introduction to R&D History：
The 'LongMarch' 2 Gas Turbine Locomotive (RD2) was jointly designed by Changchun Locomotive Works, Harbin Turbine Works, Railway Science Research Institute, Harbin Railway Bureau, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Northern Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Technology Research Institute, and Datong Locomotive Works in February 1971 according to instructions; And with the assistance and support of the above-mentioned units, as well as Taiyuan Iron and Steel Company, Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Factory, Beijing Iron and Steel Research Institute, Dalian Locomotive Factory, Yongji Electric Motor Factory, Xi'an Signal Factory, Shanghai Xianfeng Electric Motor Factory, Tianjin Power Generation Equipment Factory, Shenyang Steam Turbine Factory, etc., Adhere to Comrade Mao Zedong's proletarian revolutionary line, adhere to the call for 'independence, self-reliance', and the guidance of the Ansteel Constitution, Successfully developed the Long March 2 gas turbine locomotive with 4000 horsepower. The goal of this vehicle is to meet the traction power requirements of high-altitude, water shortage, and long slope railways, preparing for the opening of the Qinghai Tibet Railway. The locomotive was successfully trial produced at the end of 1977 and a grand ribbon cutting ceremony was held for a 4000 horsepower gas turbine locomotive.
