How to
It's quite easy.
We need one file to edit to get both of these working.
The file is located at
Users\(your name)\Documents\my games\borderlands\WillowGame\Config
For Win7.
Enter that in the search bar in windows and it should bring you here

After that the file you are looking for is WillowInput.ini
(Go ahead and back that one up first if you like)
Open it up and scroll down to the section with looks like this.

Make sure you have the parts that says something like
"Bindings=(Name="Fire",Command="Button bFire | StartFire | OnRelease StopFire",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTrigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="AltFire",Command="StartAltFire | OnRelease StopAltFire",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,LeftTrigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)"

If you don't, do not worry, simply launch the game and then reset your key bindings in the options menu and they should show up.

After you have done that (if you didn't have to do that)
Scroll down to the end of that section and after the last line add
For Third person mode
Bindings=(Name="F3",Command="Camera ThirdPerson",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,L eftTrigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=Fa lse,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F4",Command="Camera FirstPerson",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,L eftTrigger=False,RightTrigger=False,bIgnoreCtrl=Fa lse,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)
F3 changes the camera to third person and F4 changes it back.
Unfortunately you to press the keys every time you exit a car or launch the game to change back to Third person.

For FOV Fixes
Bindings=(Name="F9",Command="FOV 70",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F10",Command="FOV 85",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F11",Command="FOV 95",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)
Bindings=(Name="F12",Command="FOV 101",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

F9 is the default FOV for the game
F10, F11 and F12 can be whatever values you choose, just press the button in-game to change it to the chosen FOV. As with the third person mode you have to press the buttons every time you enter/exit a car and launch the game.

NOTE: these can be combined so you can play the game in 3rd person at 110FOV if you so desire

Multiplayer Related
  • 3rd Person has been confirmed to work in multiplayer by {Kthar N'oth} (thanks!), BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE THE HOST.
  • Other players will have their FOV constantly going back to default when the run and or aim.
Single Player
  • Getting in and out of a car sets the FOV back to default
  • Because this isn't a full on mod there are a few things to take into consideration. the main one being that aiming can be off, anywhere from a few inches away to firing behind yourself. here is an example of the off aiming.

If this happens just toggle 3rd person off and then on again. (the common solution to any of life's problems).

Worked like an absolute beast for me. Loved it.

Now I am on Borderlands 3 and am unable to fins anything similar. Any recommendations?

It works like a charm, but sadly rumble/vibration is gone while shooting in 3rd person mode.

works fine Win10.

Is there a way to rotate the camera without rotating the character? This would be the icing on the cake if you know how.

Is there a way to make third person view set the camera *directly behind* and a little above the character and adjust the crosshairs to compensate?

Thanks, works fine, but have very strange problem, when running with any weapon (in 3rd person of course), but SMG, there is no Footstep sounds from moving character... Is it me ? And is there way to fix it ?
