Description
Welcome to a little bit of everythinh and I mean - EVERYTHING - Metroid.

What is Universal Edition?

Universal Edition is a chapter of my Rimtroid Series (Such as Evolution, Elder Technologies) that, instead of focusing on a specific area of expertise, introduces a bit of everything, across the entire Metroid Universe. So many different mods and content has been planned for years, but prior to 2024, anything that had it's own category - Phazon, mechanoids, animals, Chozo, etc. - was planned as it's own massive, dedicated mod. Rimtroid: Universal is the solution to that now obsolete idea.

This mod is intended to be frequently updated, new content commonly added (either in my own interest, or by request!), and sharing new and planned additions from my own separate Rimtroid series. This mod will be frequently update, diverse in the content it provides, and (hopefully) a mod that anyone else passionate about Metroid can also help guide.

Currently adds 4 different arm cannons, and the classic Metroid from the Metroid series, all updated for 1.4 and with each having their own additions that should make them quite a unique addition to any Industrial+ playthrough.


Update notice: this mod is, for all intents and purposes, intended to be simple, easy to update, and easy to install/remove. Thus, this mod will not have the advanced features or focuses that the Rimtroid *mod series* (i.e. Rimtroid: Evolution) would have. It will instead serve as a mod that gives a bit of a slice of everything within the Metroid universe.


All suggestions - whether they be brand new, or pre-existing content in my Rimtroid: Evolution mod - is welcomed and highly encouraged!

@Sylvester Graves Totally forgot about it, but that tracker needs to be updated. I never see it on ko-fi since I would never see it when checking from email.

Rimtroid Universal is being updated for 1.5 right now, alongside some new creatures, resources, and refinements. An update in the near future should be likely.

More info about what's new will be within the description once it's released.

@Serenzah Graves Yes. It is a very ambitious and a project dedicated to feeling like metroid, and the amount of coding expertise it needs to be lore-accurate has been massive. Little segments have been updates here and there, but most of it is still outdated 1.3 code.

A delay has happened due to moving, and I will not be able to update this mod for 1.5 in the time frame I wanted (tomorrow). So this, and my other mods, will be updated as soon as possible. In the meantime you can try to see if this mod works in 1.5, but I cannot guarantee it will.

Rimtroid: Universal will be updated ASAP to bring in the content it has into 1.5, then will get a couple new additions shortly after.

@ParasiticSquid the ambition for something that drastic is way, wayyyy too out of scope for this mod in particular. While this mod has many plans, I also don't want it to get so complex that it becomes problematic to maintain and update. The intention for this mod is to make sure Metroid content is always available, and always updated.

That is what happened to Evolution; the metroids in this mod are quite simple, but in Evolution they were very different: they evolved to other metroids types, they drained life from anything alive, they even had hives and orchestrated raids. But that was so complex that it's constantly had update problems and delays.

The plans around X, alongside anything like Ing, or Pirates, or Phazon, or whatever else, do have their concepts and are plans on the Discord. But if they are to appear in this mod they'll only be very surface level, until they get their own massive, fully fleshed out spotlight later on.

Since metroid-human hybrid is planned, what about X? A player is just playing the game when a letter mentioning weird wildlife behavior happens. No other info, not even which animal. In reality a random wild animal got infected with a X and is trying to infect the rest of the map over time. When it dies it spawns a X carrying a generated gene/hidden hediff with a fraction of it's hosts stats that is applied to the next host. More past hosts a single X has the stronger it's current host like how it worked in the BSL when they mutate/merge DNA. All X hosts are added to a hidden hostile faction similar to zombieland zombies. Some infected colonists might even still act like normal ones until a event similar to traitors happen to reveal they are a X. Metroids are able to detect and dispatch X hosts and human-metroids are immune to infection and absorb a small part of the X previous hosts hidden stats.

Could work in a rimworld gameplay context doing it like that, right?
