Race Series Regulations for Automation Cars
By Raufbold
It's easy to build fast cars without limitations, but it's much more interesting when those limitations exist and the cars are built to specifications that ensure a similar balance of performance. This set of real-world race specifications is just that.

Race Car Regulations
This is going to be a short 'guide'.

The reason I'm making it is because designing cars without limitations is just boring. At the same time any challenges and competitions out there are pretty arbitrary, so I decided to go with official regulations that exist to balance the performance of the cars taking part in the races.

I compiled a list of various racing series regulations (far from complete, but I will be updating it). These come from open sources available to me, previous Automation challenges and a bit of my arbitrary judgement:

Please feel free to use these in your creations, challenges and for whatever other reasons.
Any feedback on accuracy and improvement is also welcome.

Update 1.1: added Group R-GT and Group B Rally classes - both have very few limitations compared to others and allow for some crazy builds.
Update 1.2: added SCORE regulations for Baja cars and trucks. Though the official regulations don't put a limit on type of fuel, I still did so that engine size limitations make actual sense.
Update 1.3: Group A Rally and WRC now have restrictions on Intake air flow (basically size), not turbine inducer size; Group A Touring has increased max cost and max quality restrictions - same as in GT3 to allow for better replicas of original Group A cars.

Didn't Group B cars use Avgas instead of unleaded fuel?

👏🏻 I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought about this

You can use the same idea with
Rally Americas website to there rules for rally cars
Gridlife’s website for there rules for “track cars/auto cross cars

(Literally :Almost any racing division that has a rule book)

@sdji - sorry, not Rally1 - they are the World Rally Car (classic WRC)

This is awesome thanks dude. For some regulations its really a hassle to find a lot of rules which I usually try to do when making race cars. Massive time saver here

Also, will need to make changes to the "no engine stress" requirement with the new changes. Just need to better understand what would be an acceptable stress. Maybe go with overall engine/car reliability?

Also are the WRC regulations Rally1(2022-now) or the World Rally Car? (2021-2015 or something) Because the gearbox allows for max. 5 gears and that was implemented with the Rally1 cars. Not a game breaker, but something interesting I think.

Thank you!

Oops, missed it. Thanks for pointing it out. Fixed.

WRC should also have a limit on Intake air flow, its waaaaay better then the inducer size
