Pyramid Magic II

Description

Japan Version. Use Alex Kidd Mod

Information
Pyramid Magic II (ピラミッドマジックII) is a puzzle-platform game for the Sega Mega Drive, released exclusively in Japan via the Sega Game Toshokan service.
Pyramid Magic II claims to be a "sequel" to Pyramid Magic, though is more of a continuation of the original game, with identical graphics, sounds and gameplay.
It even shows the Pyramid Magic levels on the map screen.
The difference is that Pyramid Magic II offers harder levels.

Controls
Controls in this game are straightforward.
You can move left or right, jump, grab blocks, and kick rocks. Additionally, there are some useful techniques available through specific button combinations.

Basic Controls:
  • D-Pad: Moves the character left and right
  • A: Kicks
  • B: Lifts/drops rocks
  • C: Jumps
  • START: Brings up the controls menu
These are the main controls in the game. However, there are some button combos to enhance your gameplay:

Advanced Techniques:
  • C + A: Jump kicks
  • C + B: Places a rock on the nearest ledge while in mid-air
  • C + C: Jump kicks the ground below you (if used on rocks, they break)
If you're facing challenges on certain levels, consider using these combinations:
  • A + START: Skips the current level; can be used up to 3 times per game
  • C + START: Restarts the current level

Items and Obstacles

  1. Archaeologist - You, the protagonist of this game.
  2. Wooden Crate - Kick it to obtain the Red Key (used to open the Red Chest).
  3. Red Chest - Kick it to obtain the Green Key (used to open the Green Box).
  4. Green Box - Kick it to make the mummy vanish, allowing access to the exit.
  5. Golden Key - A new item in the Pyramid Magic series. It functions similarly to a rock, but you must bring this item with you to the end of each level. This introduces new depth and strategy to puzzles.
  6. Rocks - Lift/drop them to create creative solutions for different stages. If kicked, they will continue flying forward until they hit a wall or another obstacle. You can break them by jump-kicking downwards (C + C).
  7. Mummy - Guards the exit to the next level until you open the Green Box. Attempting to touch them results in losing a life.
As you can see, there are no traditional enemies that can directly harm you. However, since this is a puzzle game, various challenges can lead to your demise. There are no bottomless pits; solid ground is present everywhere. Rocks will be your primary tool for solving all levels, so use them wisely.

Gameplay

The main gameplay in this game is straightforward. Move either left or right, jumping from platform to platform, and use rocks creatively to progress. The primary goal in all levels is to open the Green Box, which, in turn, makes the floating Mummy vanish, allowing you to access the exit. However, to open the Green Box, you first need keys from the Wooden Crate and Red Chest (in that order). In every level, collect all three keys to solve the stage.

Even if you manage to open all the boxes, you still have to navigate your way to the exit. Sometimes you may need to pile up rocks or go through small passages, so plan ahead.

There are various ways to lose a life, so be cautious. If you get stuck in any part of the room, you need to restart it, losing an extra life in the process. If you choose to skip some rooms, it will cost you an extra life, so avoid using it in desperate situations. If you touch the Mummy, which guards the exit, you will also lose a life.

Ways to lose a life:

  • Get stuck in any part of the room, press C + START to restart.
  • Lift up a rock and fall to a lower level with it.
  • Physically touch the Mummy guarding the exit.
  • Skip a room (A + START).
  • Try to exit a level without the Golden Key.

You can score up to 3 lives per level, depending on how fast you complete it.
For the maximum amount, complete the level under 1:30. If you die in any of the ways described above, the timer won't reset, and you have to start all over again.
