For now, displaying building blocks / built up areas as a subtle repeating grid provides us with something a little man-made and geometric when close up whilst giving the appearance of subtle infrastructure definition and texture when viewed from afar. I actually use it as an alignment tool in certain situations so it can be quite handy! :)
One issue which is purely personal is the infinite scaling of the building blocks filler texture etc. which gets a bit weird when zoomed in! This happens to be more noticeable on the midnight canvas
