Okay, fine you're right. I'll abandon my cannibal-pirate-sadist beliefs, but just because I believe in the power of friendship now it doesn't in any way mean I'm going to join your colony. I'm still a pirate raider, I just don't eat people anymore. And I hate raiders. In fact I'm really unhappy now because my pirate-raider leaders ideologically stand against everything I believe in.

...I think I'm going to vent my frustrations by assaulting your other prisoner "Terrorbot9000 the Megaton Deathpuncher".

Certainty
This mod makes prisoners lose certainty instead of gaining it if their mood is high in your prisons (above 35% mood). The speed is the same as what they would normally gain.

(Note: Due to the the certanity change is coded it will sometimes appear to be going in the wrong direction and then drop down to the proper value. This is not a bug. It is just a minor side-effect of my overzealous performance optmizations :) )

Recruiment and Enslavement
Converting a prisoner will dramatically reduce their resistance and somewhat reduce their will.

More specifically, converting a prisoner reduces their resistance by 75% or 15, whichever is higher. This means many foes can be immediately recruited after conversion.

Will is also reduced by 50% or 5, whichever is higher.

I was thinking about this recently, you should be able to convert unwavering pawns and they should lose their unwavering status upon conversion and require the additional normal recruitment period that vanilla demands in order for them to be recruited.

This would represent their extreme loyalty to their original faction better while also providing an immersive method for players to tackle unwavering prisoners.

Once their ideology is broken this means their allegiance to their original faction is also partially gone psychologically, this represented by their unwavering loyalty going away but their loyalty to their old faction remains in tact to some degree and thus require further additional recruitment to persuade them to stay.

@Stuff It is not hard to find research articles within neruoscience, psychology or physiology that strongly indicate that coercive methods of interrogation are worse than non-coercive methods. To mention a few since you asked for specific references: (1) Goodman-Delahunty, J., Martschuk, N. &. Dhami, M. K. Appl. Cognitive Psych. 28, 883–897 (2014). (2) Russano, M. B., Narchet, F. M., Kleinman, S. M. & Meissner, C. A. Appl. Cognitive Psych. 28, 847–859 (2014). The belief that it works is usually built on baseless assumptions.

It is updated. I just didn't bother to make a new image. :)

@wylantern please name the studies you mentioned

It would be nice if there was a option to change how much the resistance is reduced after conversion.

UPDATE WHEN???????????????????

Curious,

If you put your own ideology pawns in prison, do they lose certainty at an increased rate too depending on their mood? 🤔

Torture never works. Been studied for a hundred of years, and always fails at the desired outcome.

If you're trying to force-convert them into some violent pirate-ideology perhaps.

Not a very persuasive argument if you're running a sanctuary, holy light church, or trying to get them to agree with a bunch of peace-loving hippies.

I've not removed the ability for low mood to reduce belief, only made it so you can persuade someone over by treating them well in addition to the typical vanilla Rimworld pitch-black 1x2 ideo-conversion nightmare cells covered in vomit.
